AP - December Reading Reflection

December Reading Reflection

The focus of your reading reflection will be one book you read over the past month. This reading reflection will have two parts. Each part will have multi-paragraphs. Any changes are bolded and in red. I expect one page minimum. If you didn’t finish a book this reading cycle or didn’t make the required number of pages this will be difficult.

Do you best to address every section.

This reading reflection is not meant to be a polished piece of writing. I do, however, expect you to be mindful of Standard English, correct capitalization and punctuation.

First Part:

  • How many pages did you read this month?
  • What were the titles of the books you read?
  • Did you abandon any books this month? If so, what were they?
  • Based on the grading chart, what grade do you believe you deserve?

A = 240– + = 20 pts

B = 175- 239= 17 pts

C = 110- 174= 15 pts

D = 44-109 = 13 pts

F = 0-43 = 11pts

If you did not meet the page requirement, make a plan for next time. How will you meet the reading requirements?

Second Part:

Pick one book that you read this month as the focus of your reading reflection. Give me a 1-paragraph summary of the book. Reflect on: your reactions, thoughts, feeling, connections made, how characters changed, themes, etc. as you were reading.

What are you reading plans for Christmas Break? What if anything are you planning to read.

Next semester the reading requirement is going to be raised from 350 to 450. How do you think this will affect you? What will you need to do differently to meet the reading requirement?

This month I have read 307 pages. The title of the book that I have read this month is “Priceless”. I did not abandon any books this month. Base on the grading chart I think that I deserve an A.
The book “Priceless” was about the jewelry robber and what she does after she retires from doing what she did. She married a man that was a robber too. But he was also a detective. While I was reading this book I was wondering how she was able to get away with the robberies that she did. I felt bad for her when her husband left her and did not give her any notice. I also felt sorry for her when she was talking about how she started robbing people when she was a teen, and how she just was walking around alone without any family.
Over Christmas break I do not plan on reading anything. To meet the requirements I will have to read more at home, and read when I have time to at school.

This month I read a total of 314 pages, and I am surprised that I go that many pages in such a short time. In the month of December I read High Heat and Crack Back I read 208 pages in Crack Back and 105 pages in High Heat. I did not abandon any books this month. Based on the grading chart given I believe I should get an A = 20pts.

High Heat was probably one of the most interesting books I have read in so long. This book kept pulling me back in! There was tragedy and there was happiness! I was very scared when his father killed himself it was very sad! But when his son made the high school baseball time that was a very good moment in the book. I was so worried for the kid that got hit in the head by the fastball, because he could have very well died from it. But this book was really good and I would recommend this book to anyone and I could read it again if I had the chance! I think they should come out with a second high heat.

Over Christmas break the only thing I will be reading is the tags on the presents, I am giving my brain a break and not reading anything! When the reading requirement is changed I believe it will affect me a lot because I read at a very slow pace / level and its hard for me to reach the other goal in time if I read really hard I can make it. Now that the requirement is raised to 450 it will be hard I just have to read harder and I believe I can get to the goal.

This month I read 280 pages. From two different books, Summer ball, and Hoops of Steel. (Finished last 160 pages of Summer ball, started first 120 pages of Hoops of Steel. No I did not abandon any books this month. I would say that I deserve an A.

I am going to focus my reflection on Summer Ball. In this book a boy who was exceptionally good at basketball, but was very short, decided to go to a big shot summer basketball camp he ran into a coach who was not very nice to him. He could have quit but he decided to stick it out, and when he was given his shot he proved to be good, because he won the camp championship! And even his retired Nba star father was there to see it.

Over Christmas break I plan on reading a lot because our basketball team is going to Rolla, and that is a long boring sit in a van.

Next semester I will not be affected at all by the page requirement, because I will just read for 5 or 10 more minutes each night, which will make me finish books faster, and get me more pages.

This month I read about nine hundred pages. I read The Tenth Circle, Far From Xandrau, and Hush Hush. I didn’t abandon any books this month, but I do think I deserve a “A” because I read the amount of pages I was suppose to read for this month.
Reading the book The Tenth Circle, by Jodi Picoult was so like almost intense. I just couldn’t stop reading it because Jodi Picoult always left you hanging in this book. Especially when I was reading the part where the boy named Jason, who was getting accused of raping a girl committed suicide. But you find out later he didn’t really kill himself I wanted to scream and throw the book cause when you keep reading on in the book you find out what really happened between him and the girl and then you find out who really kills him.
This book was about a girl named Trixie who is trying to win her ex-boyfriend Jason back. So her best friend decides to throw a party and then Jason, his best friend, Trixie and her best friend all get drunk together. They start playing strip poker and things wind up from there. When Trixie goes home later that night she tells her dad she was raped by Jason. She was but no one believed it because Trixie’s mom had a secret boy friend, that was in college who sold drugs to that party and someone had secretly drugged Trixie.
I am not really planning to read anything over Christmas break because I never really do plan to read anything I just start reading.
The reading requirement wont really affect me for next semester I don’t think because I read multiple large books.

In the month of December I have read Dope Sick and starting reading my book at home called 2012. I have read a total of 265 pages so far this month. I didn’t abandon any books this month. Based on what the grading criteria was I believe that I should get an A. The book that I read this month was a little bit weird to me. It just seemed that the author keep telling the same thing over and over and it was kind of hard to keep interested in my book and I had no time to abandon a book. The main character in this book just had a whole bunch of problems that he has got him self in to. I reflected my reading of this book to kids at my school. They may not get caught up in the hard drugs but drugs revolve around some lives of students and I could reflect my book to that. I would like to say I want to recommend this book to people but I just got bored with it a lot and don’t know if I should recommend them a book that was boring to me.
For I am going to read a lot this break because I am flying to Hawaii after break to go on a week longer break and I should be able to get a lot of reading done on the long plane flights. If it wasn’t for the long plane rides I believe that I would have a hard time because that is a lot of pages for me. I am planning on going to Boarders and getting a really good book because I will have a lot of time reading on the plane and I want something good to be reading. If it wasn’t for the plane ride I will have to just read out side of school maybe and read in ALL my classes on Wednesdays SSR days.

Jayden D.This month I have read 203 pages, because that’s what page I am on in the book, ‘ Flyboys” by James Bradley. He was the author of my previous book that I loved. This was the only book I had picked up this month so I did not abandon any books. I believe I deserve a B because that’s what the chart says. Next time, to meet the requirements, I am going to try to find a book that I like a lot faster, this month took me forever to find a book I would enjoy.
During “Flyboys”, the theme stays the same, war throughout everywhere. The world was now at war. My thoughts throughout the book where always exiting, because I couldn’t wait to read about the Planes actually bombing targets. The characters in the book changed the most. At first, joking and having fun was what they did, but when they become a “Flyboy” they became serious, they where at war and many people needed them.
For Christmas break, I plan on finishing my current book, and possibly start a new one if I find a good one, or receive one for Christmas. Next semester when our reading requirements go up, I am going to have to read a lot more often, that’s just it. More at home, more at school. But, I believe I can do it, its only a 100 more pages.

First Part:
This month I have read around 260-325 pages. The titles of the books I read were, The Rules of Survival and Plain Truth. I did not abandon any books this month. Based on the grading chart I believe I deserve an A because I did meet the page requirement.

Second Part:
The Rules of Survival is the book I have chosen for this reading reflection. This book is mainly about a mother and her 3 kids. The mother leaves them home alone all of the time, treats them horribly, and puts their lives on the line almost daily. It is so sad that all these kids look forward to is staying alive another day. I do not understand why a mother would go through 3 pregnancies just to pretend your kids aren’t important and treat them like nothing. If I had kids there is no way they would ever have to live like the children in this book. Everyone’s lives are important no matter who you are. Everyone deserves a good life to live, and a chance to better themselves in everything they do.

During Christmas break; I plan on finishing my book Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult. After finishing that book, I plan on starting another one of Jodi Picoult’s books, but I have not yet decided which one to read yet. Next semester I do not think I will have much trouble meeting the requirements, since I normally read more than I have to anyways. The only thing I would need to do to meet the requirement is to make more time every night to read my book.

Part One:
During the month of December, I read three hundred and four pages in After the Wreck, I Picked Myself Up, Spread My Wings, and Flew Away. This month I did not abandon any books this month, nor read any other book. Based on the grading scale, I believe that I have earned an ‘A’ for this reading reflection because I have read over the two hundred and forty pages that were required.

Part Two:
This month, I will focus my reading reflection on After the Wreck, I Picked Myself Up, Spread My Wings, and Flew Away, this was about a teenage girl, Jenna Abbott, who was in a car accident that tragically killed her mother and sent her into a coma. Her parents were divorced, and her dad remarried, and she was sent off to live with, Dad & Stepmom. Before the wreck she was very athletic and smart, but now things have changed, not being able to focus on anything. She has become depressed, she loved her mother, and hated her father, but now she has to live with him until she decides to move from California to New Hampshire with her Aunt & Uncle. While she was in the hospital they gave her pain medications to reduce the pain and then slowly took her off of them by reducing the amount the were giving her. She stills remember how ‘relaxed’ these pills made her. She begins stealing Oxycotin from the medicine cabinet and surrounds her self with friends that use drugs and alcohol. Two closes calls happened that nearly took Jenna’s life, this was her wake-up call, she realizes that this isn’t what her mother would have wanted for her, so she makes it our alive and becomes clean, always remember the darker days in her life.
During Christmas break, I don’t plan on reading that much, I plan on relaxing and enjoying the time I have off. Going from three hundred and fifty pages each month to four hundred and fifty will be somewhat of a struggle for me but I can always push myself to get the pages I need.

This month I have finished three books. I have finished Scott Pilgrim VOL 3 &4, which together would make roughly 400 pages. I believe the exact number is 394. The third book I finished was the last bit of my lord of the rings book, which was about 60 pages when December started. Which puts me at 454 pages this month.
In my book the two towers it is very easy to reflect on because it is a great book! When December first started I was near the end of the book. I had about 60 pages left. The last pages where left off where Frodo and Sam where being led by the sneaky and two-faced smeagol. Who has two personalities through out the book. The week, and amicable Smeagol, and the cunning and evil Gollum. But even though he is imprisoned by the power of the ring to obey Frodo’s will he is leading the two companions strait into the fiery abyss to cast the ring into the fir where it was created which is continued on in the third book which is what I am planning to start reading this Christmas break.

December 21, 2010 Reading Reflection.

This month I finished one book and I started read a second book. The book I finished was called pinned and it was a great book, it could possibly be one of the greatest books I have ever read. It had about 300 pages. The book I started was Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. I am on page 87 in this book. So all together I read 387. So I believe and feel like I deserve an A!

I am going to tell you about what I feel like could possibly be one of the best sports books in my opinion. It about two high school wrestlers who are both really good, Ivan has wrestled since he was young and he is on a wrestling team that has not experience and they never win a dual. Bobby has wrestled since his freshman year. He is on an amazing team that won every dual but one. They both are seniors and the both have a dream. They want to win the 129 lbs state championship.

I connected with this book so much, I feel as if I’m Bobby when I read this book, he faces adversity every single time he steps on the mat, wrestling kids who have wrestled there hole life when he has only wrestled for four. He falls in love with this girl that none of his friends like and his parents think she is a distraction and it seems as if there the only ones who want them to be together.

Ivan is trying to win the 129 lbs state championship for his mom, she died of cancer and now wrestling is all him and his dad have. This kid trains all the time. He has practice everyday and then he goes home and works on his moves in his own practice room in his basement. This kid has a dream too.

I love this book! It is amazing! Everyone should read this book. If you’re a sport fan you would this book and even if your not you would love to just read about the dedication these kids put in. Its great to see and read an author who understand the hard work a wrestler puts in. Wrestling is not and easy sport, its on of the hardest! Then again that’s my opinion!

For this month of december I have read about 300 pages. I finished a book called "Boot Camp" and my favorite of all ways this bout about weight lifting. This month I did not leave any books, everyone I started I finished, I got lucky and got some really good ones. This month I think I deserve and "A" because I have read more then the required pages and its only fair. Well next time I do not fill worried or nothing like that, because I have gotten into reading much more this year then
I ever have. I am use to just watching the movies, but I finally realized that the books are better then the movies. The books give you way more detail then a movie aver can and thats whats makes it great. The one book i'm going to choose is" Boot Camp". I like this book because it is not like other books, the story line is so much different then most of the books I am use to reading. Its about this boy who gets taken from his house in the middle of a dead sleep and dragged to a boot camp for bad kids. Whats different is that his parents are paying the people to do it so they can have the son that they always wanted. When i found that out, it really made me think how any parents can not love their son or daughter just the way they are. I was thinking what my parents though about me? If i was no the kid they wanted. But the kid was really smart, so he tried all the tricks in the book to get out of that place, but the workers there was not falling for it. So he ended up telling them what they wanted to hear, and doing what they wanted him to do, and things was alot easier on him in that place. In the end he got out and it all worked out for the best.

For the month of December I have read 182 pages of Rich Dad Part 2. I did do part of my November reading reflection for the begging on this book but now that I'm almost done I want to share the rest I have learned, just because I think it's important. I didn't read any other book this month besides Rich Dad Part 2 and based on the scoring guide I deserve a B. To raise this to an A, I should probably read more in CAMP class.
Now may I warn you this book isn't for everyone, unlike the first book. This book is more for people who want to invest. So this book was pretty interesting to me. It wasn't necessarily a HOW TO do it kind of book, but more of a guide to find out what kind of investor you are and how to get to the kind of investor you want. The kind of investor you are depends on what kind of Investing Level you are on. and the book talked about all 7 levels and had a space for you to write down if you knew anybody that were that kind of Investor. The only one I could find was a Level 0 investor which those kinds of investors don't have any money to invest and spend all their money when they get a paycheck and just all together not a good saver. That sounds like my brother and sisters. Level 1 Investors remind me of my cousins because they are always borrowing money from banks and usually going into debt. Then the level 2 investors is me, the savers. They always put some money into some kind of savings account and understand why investing is good. Now I'm not going to describe all the levels to you because I don't think you would find it interesting like I do but I will tell you where I would love to be some day.

This month I think I have read a little over two hundred and forty pages. The book that I have been reading is The Naked Truth and while I have been reading this book I can't find any book that interests me after I finish this book. I have a abandoned a few books but I don't remember what the names were. The grade that I think I deserve is an A because I have been trying really hard to read as much as I can especially when I work everyday.
The main book that I have read was The Naked Truth and this book has been about how Marvelyn has been trying to adapt with HIV now that she has tested positive for it with someone that she really cared about and trusted and now that everyone knows that she has this disease no one wants to be close to her. Marvelyn then joins this group of people that go around and talk about there lives with HIV. Marvelyn then feels more comfortable around other people that do have it because they know how she feels and understand what she is going through. I feel like if I was Marvelyn I would try and get the word out there that having save sex is important because HIV can happen to anyone. As I was reading I think that she has matured a lot more now that she found out she has HIV because she realizes that she should of had more safe sex.
For Christmas break I am going to try and read as much as I can even with me working everyday I am going to try and fit it in and read a few pages out of my book. Right now I don't know what I am going to read but I hope I find another book that is just like this one because this book had me wanting to read more and more of it. I think the pages changing from three hundred -fifty to four hundred - fifty is going to be kind of hard but I will try and read the reading requirements. What I think I will need to differently will try and make more time to read a few pages out of the day and make the requirements.

Where I do want to be is a Level 7 investors. That's someone who seriously knows what they are doing when it comes to investing. They are at the top of the investment list and have a bunch of money coming in, they are also known as the Capitalist. But in all reality I only really see me getting to a Level 5 investor which isn't bad they are the sophisticated investors. They have good saving habits and have a good financial base, and I think before the time I'm 23 I'll be educated enough in stocks and have a good financial base to do this, well lets hope! Other things that I have learned in this book is that don't let disappointments get you down because you wont get anywhere with investing, if you need help get a mentor and fix your problems.
I enjoyed this book just as much as I did Part 1 of the book. Reading it made me feel good and made me feel like anything is possible if you just set your mind to it, not everything will be easy, but when things get hard you just have to relax and deal with it.
Okay I don't plan on readying ANYTHING over Christmas break :-) I'm a free man and I plan on relaxing! But when we do get back from Christmas break I plan on reading "The Millionaire Mind." I think the page raise might affect me greatly. I can barely read all the pages we are now. Not sure how I'm going to handle 100 more. But I know I will get it done some way or another, I won't give up. All I will have to do is read a lot more when I'm not working.

December reading reflection

This month I read 243 pages. The titles of my book were “The lovely bones” and “Perfect”. I abandon one book this month because it just was not interesting to me and I found a better book. I believe the grade I should receive is an A because I read over 243 pages.
The book “Perfect” was dealing with teenage girls and eating disorders. Belle has kept this eating deal from her family until one day her little sister barges in and catches her. At first April wants to make a deal with Belle but then nothing Belle has is quite worth her time. Now April is known as “Ape Face” all because she told on her sister. Belle’s mom is all alone with the two girls and decides Belle needs help with her eating disorder. The first day of “group” Belle tries to make her mother feel bad by saying her dad would never make her do this “not in a million years”. The dad is deceased and the mom is still depressed. While at group Belle is so surprised to see miss perfect sitting across from her. Miss perfect is Ashley B the most popular girl a Belle’s school. Everyone loves Ashley not just because she is beautiful but she is also nice. Her whole family is just like her. All three of her older brothers take turns driving her to school because Ashley would not ever be caught riding the bus.
This book made me realize how big of a problem this really is with teenage girls. I felt kind of scared after reading this. Some girls who have this problem can hide it very well and most do not know what they are doing to their bodies. Also I was surprised by how much the mother favored “Ape Face”. While at dinner there is an episode when all Belle wants is the peas and her mother makes her take them from her ex-sister. Belle leaves the dinner table and while in her room she hears her mom and sister laughing and having a great time without her.

For the month of December, I have read 371 pages. I finished reading Graceling, and started to read Fire. I did not abandon any books this month, but like Graceling, Fire had a slow start. I believe I deserve an A because I read above the normal minimum pages to get an A. I did not even think I read that much because I forgot to write the rest of the pages of Graceling.

Since I am currently reading Fire, I will talk about it. The beginning of the book takes place some years before the events of Graceling. It involves a widower and his infant son. The son was able to talk, walk, and do what most children cannot do until they are at least two. His nurse/nanny believes him to be Graced, but his eyes are a natural color. His father does not want to believe he his Graced. He lost his wife, and if his son is Graced he will lose him too. The Graced are sent to the king to develop their talents. If their skill proves useful, then the king will keep them. If useless, they return home. When he discovers one day that his son’s eyes have changed, he takes him and flees toward the mountainous wilderness. They fall into a hole in the mountain and end up in some strange new land filled with beautiful and deadly monsters. He discovers that there are no Graced that reside in this new land, so he knows his son is safe. They live there for a while when the Father thinks he found out his son’s Grace. He tells him he thinks he has the power to control minds with his words. They share a laugh, and then the son kills him. He then decides he would take his father’s name: Leck. Leck, would one day return to his homeland and become the king of Monsea. This was a real shock because it filled in the holes that Graceling left out. It said he came from a world inhabited with monsters, but never said how he lost his eye, if he did at all. I had a feeling it was him, but I was not all that sure.

For Christmas break I will probably continue to read Fire. After that I would like to find Kingdom of Twilight and/or Clockwork Angel. Those are books based off of other series I have read. I would need to start reading more to make the goal for the next semester. I would also need to read longer books and read more at home.

December reading reflection

I have read 300 pages so far this month. I have only read one book since the last reflection and this book was “Bill Snyder They Said It Couldn’t Be Done.” I didn’t abandon any book so far. I deserve an “A,” 20 points because not only did this surprise me that I have read this much this fast but it is the first time I have read this fast.
Bill Snyder was born in St. Joseph Missouri. He first attended Hall Elementary, and later moved to nearby Washington Elementary. He went to Lafayette High School. He started out college at the University of Missouri, and made straight F’s and then went to William Jewell College and got straight B’s. He then got an offer to be an assistant on the North Texas State football team and he accepted as fast as he could. Then he was tired of just being an assistant, so he went out looking for more jobs and got asked by USC Trojans and he said of course “YES.” He then went to Iowa University and got told by the head coach “Kid you have the most potential out of any of my assistant coaches to become a head coach at any college he wished.” Snyder didn’t believe him but then the day came when the Kansas State University athletic director called him and offered him the head-coaching job. When Snyder got to the University he struggled finding the right staff and the right facilities to use. Bill Snyder is still the head coach there today.
I don’t really plan on reading that much over the break, but with the page numbers increasing I think that I should get a head start for January. With the pages increasing this is going to affect me tremendously because I don’t like to read that much as it is. I will just need to stay focused on the tasks that are given to me.

I am very proud that I have read over 175 pages this month! I am reading, “Billie Standish was Here” by Nancy Crocker. I haven’t finished it yet, but I am almost there! I have not abandoned a book all year, every book I have picked out, and I finished!
Based on the grading chart, I think I deserve a B due to the fact that I didn’t get all my pages read, and it was easier this month! I did not meet the requirements this month, so the plans for next month are I guess to work and run around less so I can read more. I need to stop going to friends houses so much because the time I spend there, I could be at home reading my book, getting the full amount of pages.
In the book I am still currently reading, “Billie Standish was Here” by Nancy Crocker, there is a little girl named Billie Marie. She lives in a small town in the state of Missouri. Her parents are farmers, and she is their only child. One day when she wakes up, she thinks the town is deserted because there is no one there. However, she comes to find out, they all just left town because they thought the dam was going to break and the town would flood. During this period of time, her parents are always gone, so she goes for a walk, and meets Mrs. Lydia. They become very close friends; they spend everyday together from noon until dark! Billie helps Mrs. Lydia with chores around the house, and Mrs. Lydia teaches Billie how to cook, wash laundry, and all kinds of other things. Mrs. Lydia has a son named Curtis, he is a weird man. When he was younger he was drinking and driving, him and his girlfriend got into a wreck and she passed away. Well one day he pulled up and told Billie that his mom wanted them to go to the store, and she got in the car. Well, he took her to an old abandoned schoolhouse, and raped her. When Mrs. Lydia found out, she shot him. She loves Billie as her own, actually, better then her own! After the funeral and everything, Mrs. Lydia and Billie hung out, after a little while, they went too Kansas City, they had fun! I really love this book, it’s so good! I can’t wait to see how it ends!
When Billie was raped, I had a bunch of gruesome, horrible thoughts and feelings. The way it was described I was right beside her, listening, watching, as if it were done to me! I think the theme of this book is that there is a friend in everyone, no matter how young or how old! You just have to look for it! One character that changed a lot was Mama! She hated Billie being around Mrs. Lydia after she shot her own son! Mama didn’t know the real reason she did it though! Lydia and Billie decided not to tell anyone who didn’t already know, because of the ruckus it would cause! They just left it alone, and dealt with it themselves! It was there secret. But as Mama got closer to Mrs. Lydia while she was taking her to town all the time, she began to like Lydia and trust her! This really made me happy, because Mrs. Lydia was Billie’s only friend, and one didn’t just need the other, they needed each other!
My reading plans for Christmas Break are to read every chance I get! No matter what! I am always going to have a book in my hand! I am going to finish “Billie Standish was Here” and then I might read, “Crank!” I am kind of excited to finish this book, and start this new book!
Next month when the page requirements go up to 450 pages, I think my grade will drastically go down, because I am barely making half of the 350 pages now! I will definitely have to make a lot of time to read! I will have to get someone to motivate me to read and help me stay focused! I will ask my mom to help me I guess! I really have no idea now, but I hope I can do it!

For the month of December I read 637 pages. I have finished one book this month but have started and am reading five books. The titles of these books are Crazy Beautiful, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The World Without Us, The Zookeepers Wife, A Great and Terrible Beauty, and Fallout. Based on the grading chart I think I should get an A for this month.

Of all the books I’m reading this month one of my favorites and the one I finished was Crazy Beautiful by Lauren Baratez – Logsted. This book is about two kids who both have moved to the same town for separate reasons. Aurora after her mom dies of cancer and Lucius after blowing off his arms with a homemade bomb. On the first day of school without saying one word to each other they start to feel a strong connection to each other. But after a terrible rumor is started about Auroras father the school librarian their relationship becomes strained until Lucis finally discovers the truth about who started the rumor.

My reading plans for over Christmas break are the same thing that I usually do which are just to read all the books I have checked out and then if I need more then to go get more. I think I will be okay with the raise in pages for next semester because I have read over 1,000 pages and even this month –my lowest month- I read more then the needed pages.

For the month of December I finished “If we kiss” and started “Jennifer’s body”. I abandoned “Notes of a midnight driver” after I got 25 pages in. I just couldn’t get into it and it wasn’t a good book to me. As far as pages go I read 232. Based on the grading scale I deserve a B. I’m close to 240 and the month still isn’t over yet.

“If we kiss” is about a girl named Charlie who gets her first kiss from the guy who kisses every other girl. After they kiss he really doesn’t acknowledge her. She waits around for him until the night of her party. Charlie decided not to tell anyone about the kiss and she later realizes that was a bad idea. After seeing Kevin kiss her best friend. Her having a party could have been the worst thing she could have ever done. Not only did she catch her best friend kissing her first kiss. Charlie’s mom met Kevin’s dad at her party and they really start hitting it off. So Charlie can’t be with Kevin if their parents are together? But she doesn’t give up hope! She thinks if they kiss just one more time he’ll want her after that. This book reminded me so much of my freshman year.

I just started “Jennifer’s Body” and can’t stop reading. I’m only on page 55 and I know more stuff than I would in any other book. Anita and Jennifer are best friends. Anita isn’t as popular or as pretty Jennifer but they were real close. Even though Anita tried her heart out to be just like Jennifer, she doesn’t compare. I could connect this book to the body image packet and to other movies like mean girls. After reading the back of the book I find out Anita kills Jennifer and even though im not that far in Im predicting that Anita kills Jennifer because she’s so jealous of her or because Jennifer embarrasses her.

I would recommend “Jennifer’s Body” to anyone that likes suspenseful books but would only recommend “If we kiss” to someone that’s in middle school or in high school. Over Christmas break I plan to finish Jennifer’s Body and start a new book!

The month of December I read 296 pages in the book called, “Three Little Words.” I did not abandon any books this month because we had a short month and I only had time to read one book. Based on the grading chart, I believe I deserve an A because I hit the requirement with some extra pages.

The book I want to focus on in my reading reflection is, “Three Little Words.” I couldn’t really make any connections with the book because the little girl and boy did not have parents who could take care of them. They were always moving from house to house or state to state. I couldn’t imagine moving from school to school & different homes all the time. Ashley and Luke get into a very abusive foster home, but couldn’t get any help. This feeling would suck because she is now getting abused where she doesn’t want to be. Ashley was very mouthy, but when she got with her grandpa and Adlene to discipline her right she straightened up. The book confused me at first because the state just took the young kids from their own mother & the kids were very confused. I found that unfair because Ashley was the older one who had so many questions, but no answers.

Over Christmas Book I think I will read Deadline or Bad Girls don’t die. I have heard these books are really interesting so I will start to read over Christmas Break so that I wont get behind on my pages and I will be ahead for the next reading reflection.

Gage B. This month I read 375 pages and the books were JLA and Goal. JLA was about Super Heros, like Batman, Spiderman, and Aqua Man. The book that I want to talk about is Goal. The reason why I wanted to talk about Goal is because It's about a Mexican Santiago and his skill with the soccer ball.
The book goes a little like this, Santiago and his family sneak across the border to the United States. Santiago works with his dad in a loan mowing business and he plays in a soccer league. One day at his soccer game a scot came up to him and said "your pretty good, If you could get out to Manchester United they will give you a tryout". Santiago went to England to get the tryout and he made it. His hole life changed because of his skill with the ball, love for the game, and Glen the scot that gave him a chance.
Over the Christmas break I am planing on reading about 30 minutes a day. I think that reading 450 pages in a month will be hard for me, but I think I can do it. The 350 pages was really hard for me, but I didn't read every day so if I read every day I might be able to read 450 pages.

For the month of December I have read total of 198 pages. The tittles of the books are Witch-hunt by Marc Aronson, and The devil in the whit city by Erik Larson. Based on the grading scale I believe I deserve a b or c because I did not meet the required amount of pages for December. My plan for next time to meet the required pages for next month is too read twenty or thirty minutes each day after school. With me reading after school each day it will make it easier to meet the goal of 250 pages and expand my vocabulary.
One of the books I read this month is Witch Hunt by Marc Aronson. This book is about is how this one community does anything to prove someone guilty of being witch. Sometimes during a trail the judge asked the crowed if they felt anything happening to them. Some of the crowd lied to just have them convicted of the crime. The what the witches did was pinch a person or felt them touch them when the person on trail was clear across the room. The punishment of being a convicted was being hanged or some form of different punishment that the judge can think of at the time. Some of thoughts that I was thinking of when I was reading this book were that some of this people are messed up in the head or just want to get back at that person.
During Christmas break I plan to finish a book of three hundred or more pages. Next semester when were required to read four hundred pages this will be a challenge that I am willing to except

For the month of December I read 258 pages. The book I read this month was Alas, Babylon. No I did not abandon any books this month. I believe I deserve an A for this month because I have read the required pages needed to pass the A range.

This book made me weep terribly because of all of the deaths that took place during the Holocaust. I made quite a few text to world connections from this book, like in the book where people died from persecution for their religion, it was the same thing in history where Hitler killed the Jewish and put them in concentration camps for torturing and stuff like that.

First Part:

This month I have read 325 pages. From “The Uglies” book, I did not abandon any books. I say that I deserve an A because I have met further and beyond the requirements to gaining an A.

Second Part:

“The Uglies” is about a girl who lives in a world where anything that looks normal is ugly. So in that world when you turn 16 you get a surgery that changes the way you look to make you beautiful. Well in this book I there is a part where her new friend runs away and the people named Special Services ask her to rat out her friend or be ugly forever. I thought she was going to stay ugly to save her friend, but instead she rats her friend out and they make her go to the location where her friend is and catch everyone who’s there. She changed from always having her friends back to a snitch.
I plan to finish this book sometime over Christmas break. Then get the second book of the series.
Next semester I think I’ll be fine. Although I might need to step up my game and read more then 15 pages a day so they don’t pile up. Other than that I think I’ll be fine.

I read about 223 pages this month. The only book I read this month so far was Finding Lubchenko. I didn’t get rid of any books this month. Based on the grading chart I think I should get at least a 17. I plan to read faster next month to meet the requirement.
In the book Finding Lubchenko, this kid named Evan is the son of a very, very rich family. His mom died when he was in middle school and his dad is the owner of some major federal science lab. His dad is very hazardous because it houses smallpox, and other very dangerous diseases. His dad was accused of murder when he was working late one day and found a co-worker dead. Evan tries to clear his dad’s name.
Through out this whole book, I felt like I was on the edge of my seat. My favorite part was when Evan and his friends went to Paris to try and find a ghost. I had a few connections threw this book. I know how it feels to loose a parent because instead of me loosing my mom, I lost my dad when I was in 8th grade. Also if my mom were accused of murder, I would defiantly do what it takes to clear her name, especially if she didn’t do it. I felt like I was right there with Evan through his whole adventure. Although his dad treated him like crap he still did what it took to free his dad, I would do the same. I kept feeling excited every time Evan and this girl he liked got closer to each other. They started off best friends sense 5th grade and ended up falling for each other.
Over Christmas break I honestly don’t plan on reading at all. I have tons of family coming into town and I still have to work. I’m going to be really busy. And having to read 450 pages is going to be tough on me because I am very busy all the time. I work mostly 5 days out of the week and when I work I don’t get off until about 10 or 10:30. But I will try to read more in school and read faster. I’m a slow reader and I think that’s why its so hard to read a lot.

First Section
I only read 101 pages so I only deserve “D”. I am going to buy a book over break that is big that way I can get the pages I need so that I don’t fail this class.
Second Part
I finished my book “The Art Of Zombie Warfare.” I was about how to train a zombie army and how to fight like a zombie. It was a funny book, and it was interesting to read.
I thought this book was good and I would suggest it to others because it maid me laugh and it keeps you interested. There really was not a main character or a theme other than zombies and fighting. I feel that the person who wrote the book did very well and I hope to read another one of his books.
As far as Christmas break I have no clue what I’m going to read. I plane to buy a big book and read a lot because I can not fail this class. I thank I am going to buy a dictionary or something, ok maybe not a dictionary but something with a lot of pages. If I read 15 pages a day next semester then I will be able to reach the 450 page requirement.

This month I read 246 pages. I finished Code Talkers and am halfway through The Outdoor Kids. I did not abandon any books. I believe I deserve an A because I read the required amount of pages.

The book The Outdoor Kids is about the men of Company B, 7th infantry regiment, who fought on the European battlefields. When I first chose this book I thought there would be a lot of action. I was 100 pages into the book and no one had fired a shot. I do not like this book but I will finish it, because I must know the ending.

For the month of December I read a book called friends close, and enemies closer by Claudia Gabel. I have read 247 pages this month. I believe that I have deserved an A because I have read more then 240 pages, and I stayed with my book throughout the whole month. I will meet the reading requirements for next time just by finding a book or books that I enjoy and read them.

Friends close and enemies closer, was the last book of the squeal I was reading. I absolutely loved these books because they were about teen girls going through real problems that teens mostly go through. Marnie and Nola were best friends in the beginning and then they got into a huge fight over nothing really, they both were very mean to each other. Marnie became popular for a while until something bad happened, and Nola became really close to the “love of her life” as she puts it. By the fourth book the characters changed so much. I recommend reading all three of these books because they are fantastic, if you’re a teen girl going through boy trouble and fighting with your best friend then this is the book for you. It don’t give you advice but it is a funny and realistic book.

My reading plans for Christmas break are no reading. Im not going to have to much time to read with juggling work and family and Christmas and new years. For next semester I think that it’s a good idea to change the reading pages that will give me motivation to read more. I think this will affect me in a positive way and keep me on track to read more. I will need to read more to finish more books throughout the months and write them down when I finish them.

This month I read 215 pages. I only read one book, unfortunately, but it was a really good book! The grade I think I deserve is a B because the pages I read this month fall in that letter grade.
The book I read over this time was The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. It’s about a little boy who lives in Germany and is forced out of his house and moved to the “Out-With” because his father is a commander in the Army, and Hitler wants him to run a concentration camp. Over the time that he is at the “Out-With” he meets a little boy who is a Jew, and went through the same thing as him, just with worst circumstances. They become great friends through out the book and talk everyday. Then the little boy from Berlin gets unfortunate news that he's moving back home. The two boys want to actually play together before he has to move back home, so he decides to crawl under the fence into the concentration camp, and is never found again.
While reading this book I felt very different at times. I felt sad for the little boy who had to move, then sadder for the little boy who was a Jew. I felt happy when they met each other though, but scared for them when they met up everyday. I would get very mad every time I read about what the soldiers did to the Jews, and confused because I never really understood the point in what Hitler did. But the one time I really was sad, was when the little boy snuck into the concentration camp, and then finding out three pages later that he was never found again. This is a very sad book, but it is so good and I would recommend it to anyone!
My plans for reading over Christmas break is to re-read one of the Ellen Hopkins books, preferably Crank, so I can just start from the beginning and re-read the whole serious through out second semester. With the reading pages changing and raised to a higher number I don’t think I’ll have to make to many changes. I’m a fast reader and always got my 350 pages done in class, without any after school reading, but now with the changes I’ll plan to read two or three nights a week to make up for the extra reading that is going to be required. Other than that though, I think things will stay the same.

I am reading “Breaking Dawn” and I have read 87 pages this month. I started to read “Diva” but it got boring to me I just couldn’t get in to it at all so I abandon it. I read 33 pages out of that. I think I deserve at least a D, because on the grading chart that’s what range I am in but I also didn’t read as much as I should of. No I didn’t meet the page requirements but I will next time because I actually am going to read a little bit over break out of the sane book “Breaking Dawn”.

When I read that book I actually feel like it’s happening right in front of me I get so in to this book. It was easy to get in to because I haven’t seen the movie yet so I’m reading it before seeing the movie. I didn’t like it when Jacob put his hands on Bella like that at her wedding reception, but then here comes Edward and saves her. I mean it does also make me mad that she didn’t choose Jacob but I mean it was her decision in the first place.

About as for as I have gotten was when they was talking about getting married and then decided to tell Charlie and Bella’s mom. Her mom wasn’t to shocked but her dad was, Alice organized everything, took care of all out fits. Then after the wedding Edward was taking her on the honeymoon and he still hasn’t told her where. And after the reception they leave and are on their way to the honeymoon.

My reading plans for Christmas break is going to be, reading every once in a while. Ill read 15 pages a day for 4 days at least. I am planning to read ‘Breaking Dawn’. Yes I see that is will be raised from 350-450 and I don’t know if I will read that much but ill try as best as I can to reach that goal. I will just need to quit being lazy and just sit down and read more.

This sum’s up my AP- December Reading Log.;)

This month I read 380 pages. I read The Book Thief this month and I didn’t abandon a single book. I believe that I deserve an “A” because I read well over 240 pages so it falls into that range.
My book is narrated by death. Death tells the story of a little girl named Liesel and her new life with her new foster family. Growing up in Nazi becomes a challenge for the girl, especially when her parents take in a Jew named Max. While the family deals with everything going on around them, Max and Liesel become friends, but later they have to send Max away because it’s no longer safe for him to be there. Liesel steals books throughout the story but the most important book is the one Max gives her, the one he wrote. It’s a story of friendship, overcoming the odds, family, childhood and love.
I absolutely love this book! It’s amazing how you can connect with the emotions of the characters. I read the book last year also, but reading it again brought out new emotions that I didn’t notice before. The characters changed throughout the book. Mama became softer the longer Max stayed, Papa became more alert, and Liesel she grew up she matured because of the experience. As I read this book it made me sad, because the story is so heart wrenching. This book is so amazing, I think what makes it good is the fact that it’s narrated by death. It gives a completely different perspective to the story, it gives you background, and details.
Over Christmas break I plan to read Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead. It’s the last book in one of her series. I’ve been wanting to read it really bad, especially since it came out a few weeks ago.
Next semester I shouldn’t have a problem meeting the requirements. I just need to make sure that I can find books that really spark my interests.

For the month of December I read approximately 275 pages. I only read out of one book, Flawless by Sara Shepard. Based on the chart I would have to I deserve a full 20 points because I read over the amount of pages required.

The book, Flawless by Sara Shepard, is a Pretty Little Liars Novel. It is mainly about this group of girls who back in middle school did something horrible to a boy from their school’s sister. Then a few years down the road one of the girls disappeared and was found, murdered in her backyard. Now all of the other girls are receiving weird text messages and emails from her murderer and they are trying to figure out who it is.

The book is honestly one of the best I’ve read. The author used very catchy wording and cliffhangers at the end of each paragraph to keep me wanting to read more. I haven’t read the rest of the book yet, but I am hoping the girls come across the killer of their best friend. My inference is that they won’t though, considering there are like six or seven other books. A few of the characters in the book are a little confusing to figure out, because each of the paragraphs is about just one of the girls and then switches to another and goes on throughout the book. Sometimes I get a couple of the girls mixed up.

Over Christmas Break I plan to finish Flawless and read the next novel in the series. Next semester considering the requirement is being raised to 450, I don’t really think it will affect me much, I will just simply start reading on my break at work and at home. My breaks at work are 30 minutes long so I could get plenty of reading done in that amount of time. That isn’t including the time we get in class to read, and on Wednesday when we read for 20 minutes in every class. Therefore I won’t necessarily have to do anything different other than maybe read on my break at work to be sure I will meet the requirement.

During this month I read 241 pages, and the title of my book is The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. And I did not abandon any books this month and that is because I read slow so I’m reading the same book. And I believe that I deserve an A because the grading chart says, so I’m going to believe the chart.

My thoughts on The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test is that it is an amazing book and if you want to read a little about hippies this is the book you should be reading. But I feel like this is a great book because it tells about a man named Kesey and his Merry Pranksters, but it’s also like a book on what kind of went on during the 70’s and it gives you some kind of information. I mean I cant really relate to anybody in the book because I’m not a hippie from the 70’s trying to graduate from acid or any other drugs. But maybe some people that were alive during the 70’s could have a connection.

My plans on reading over Christmas Break are maybe probably slim to none but if I get a chance, I may pick a book up and read it for a while. And the book I will be probably be reading is the same book I’ve been reading for like the last month.
The reading requirement will affect me because I will have to finish my books quicker so I can read more and get more pages. What I will need to do differently to meet the reading requirements is that I will try reading every day and getting more pages read.

This month, I read 212 pages. I’ve been reading Diva, A novel, and I just started Right Behind You. I did not abandon any books this month, I’ve been reading these two books the whole time and I LOVE them! It says due to the amount of pages I read, I’d only be getting a B. I only read 212 pages, and if I would of maybe spent a little more time reading, I would of reached my goal at 240 pages, but I didn’t. Therefore, I deserve a B. Since I didn’t make the requirement, the only idea in my head for next time, is just spend more time reading.
A book that I’ve been enjoying to read is, Right Behind You by Gail Giles. It’s about a young boy, who when he was little, set another young boy on fire. He was too young to be put in jail, so his dad decided to put him in a mental home where he gets therapy every single day. This boy has to live with this guilt the rest of his life, no matter where he moves.
My reaction to this book, is kind of that “WOW” thought. When I read about a 7 year old boy lighting another young boy on fire, there’s not much good that goes through my mind. It made me feel sad because it ended up killing the other little boy. There wasn’t that many connections made, except for the setting. Kip, the little boy, lived out in the middle of nowhere with his dad, and I remember when I used to live in an environment like that. Characters changed when he showed up in the mental institution. He talks about the different kind of kids that were in there and for what reason.
My reading plans for Christmas break, is 15 pages a day. Since the pages have been raised to 350, I will only need to read 15 pages a day to reach that. My new goal is 350 pages or higher. It will be a little bit more challenging, but all I need to do is just make time for myself and keep reading. I can do it!

This month, December, I read 251 pages. I have only read one book this month and I’m not quite done with it yet, so I haven’t abandoned it, but I haven’t finished it yet either. Based on a new grading scale this month I believe I deserve an A!
The book I read this month is called My Sister’s Keeper. It is about a young girl, Anna, who is feeling neglected by her family because her older sister, Kate, has Leukemia and needs much attention and many surgeries. So Ann decides to set up a law suite towards her parents to try and stop being Kate’s donor, but reality is Kate could die without this help. Does Anna really want that?
My thoughts/reactions to this book happen to be very depressing. Seeing what this family has to go through on a nightly basis makes you want to do everything in your power to help. It’s sad because I know the girl with Leukemia, Kate, is in so much pain and nothing helps it. I don’t think I could handle watching my little girl go through this as a parent. I think the parents in this book are very strong and have tons of faith. I was shocked to see how calm and collect they acted towards most of the situations. I also know where the youngest daughter is coming from. It’s not a happy feeling when you feel like your family wants nothing to do with you. I can connect to this because it’s the reason I moved out of my house at 16. Parents don’t usually listen or know what’s going on in a teenagers head until the teen takes actions. So I know that Anna feels like she has to take action with this lawsuit so that her parents will finally listen to her. Not because she really doesn’t want to be a donor for Kate anymore. I can tell in the book that the girls are very close to each other because when they were littler and Kate’s disease wasn’t as bad they would play 23/7. If I could predict the end of this book, as sad as it seems, I would say that Kate passes away, but the family finds ways to deal with it.
To be honest I don’t plan to read a lot over Christmas break. I plan on working as much as I can. I will, however, finish reading this book I haven’t finished yet. Next semester I will no longer be in this class because I am a senior, but I believe this is going to affect more then half of the people because they can not even keep up with the 350 pages we have now. I don’t honestly understand how it is so hard to read 10-15 pages a day. I believe if everyone tried they would be surprised at themselves.

I read 364 pages this month of December. My book was Bad Girls Don’t Die by Katie Alender . I abounded a book it was called the hit I’m sure who by. Based on the Grading scaled I believe I deserve an A because I meet the reading requirements.
My book is a very interesting story about a girl named Alexis and her sister Kasey. Everything starts changing even Kasey, she gets obsessed with this doll and starts acting really strange. Kasey’s eyes change to a different color she starts speaking different languages. Kasey loses her doll that she’s obsessed with and that’s when everything gets wild cause she gets very angry. Finally Alexis finds out her sister is possessed by something in the house. So Alexis burns down the house to get rid of whatever possesses her sister.
Threw this whole book was different reactions to me. From getting excited to know what was going to happen next, being sad knowing her sister is possessed, happy because she finally gets rid of the thing that’s possessing Kasey. The things that happen in this book remind me of the movie the Exorcism because when Alexis looks out the window she sees Kasey pounce up on a tree and that’s also what happen in the Exorcism.
My reading plans for Christmas break is to see if there are any other books by this author Katie Alender. I think next months reading reflections are going to be harder for me if I have to read 450 pages because to me that is a lot of reading. I will try my hardest to push myself to get 450 pages or more.

This month I read 250 pages. The book I am reading is called The Steel Wave. I did not abandon any books this month. Based on the grading chart I believe I deserve an A because I met the page requirement for the month.
The book I wish to focus on is The Steel Wave. The book is about the Normandy Invasion of World War II. It focuses on several characters both well known and unknown. The book will take you from the view point of Erwin Rommel of Germany, General Dwight Eisenhower of the U.S., and General Patton of the U.S., an American paratrooper named Jesse Adams, and a U.S soldier named Tom Thorne. All of these viewpoints are tied together to give readers the full view on what happened on D-Day.
My feelings at first were what would be like to be in one of these men’s shoes? The challenges they had to face and hardships they went through. If I were General Eisenhower what would I have done? Would I have had the men storm the beaches like they did or would I have come up with a different plan that would have saved more lives? These are just a few of the questions that came to my mind as I was reading the book. It makes you think if you were there what would you have done?
My reading plans for Christmas break are to continue reading and hopefully finish the Steel Wave. Since the reading requirement is being raised I know I will have to read more then ever but I have several books that I need to read that will help me meet the requirement.

For the month of December I only read one book which was “Three Cups of Tea” by Greg Mortenson and has 349 pages. This book was about Greg Mortenson going to India and helping children get a school so they can get an education and he raises all of this money to do so. The book got its title because if you drink 3 cups of tea with a family over in India then you are considered to be family. This was the only book that I read this month because I had to work a lot and didn’t have any extra time outside of school to read, I have two jobs so its hard to balance out all of the time for it. For this month I also did not abandon any books, I only read “Three Cups of Tea” because that was the only book that I wanted to read at all.
While reading this book I felt a lot of different things, I felt sad because Greg talked about how the people over in India suffer and all of the hard ships that they have to go through and how they cant go to school. I was surprised to find out that over in those places even tourists are supposed to do the afternoon prayer even if they aren’t of the Muslim religion. When I was reading this book it made me have more of an appreciation for what I do have, even the simplest things like having a home to live in, not a hut made out of cow poop. My favorite part of the book was when Greg got to unveil the school to the whole village and to read about how happy they were. To us it is just school but to them its an opportunity to make better for themselves and to support their families.
For December I think that I deserve an A because I met the page requirement and I haven’t skipped a day of reading. Over Christmas break, I’m going to be very honest…I probably wont read anything except for the Sunday funnies section in the newspaper. I just want to be able to hang out with my brothers and my sister over break, not read. As for next semester I don’t think that I will have to struggle to make the requirement, I can read more than I do now but I don’t get extra credit for reading so I don’t do it. That can sound bad but I don’t like doing more than I have to if I don’t get more of a grade for it.

This month I have been reading the book “The New Dead.” So far in this book I have read 227 pages, which would be a B. My plan for next month to meet the page requirement is that I am going to read at home more often, because right now I am reading at home once ever couple weeks. I will try my hardest to get above the 400-page requirement.

In the book “The New Dead” there is many different authors. It is about a bunch of zombie short stories. In the story “The Zombie Who Fell From The Sky”
Was about this zombie that was found on top of city hall roof and they tried to move it but the left because it was rotten. But that evening these airplanes crash into each other right above this city, which had the plague on it and people, started turn into zombies. They started attacking people who hadn’t turned yet.

When I look at this cover on this book it makes me feel scared. There are a mob of zombies walking towards the title which looks like they are coming after me. Also my first reaction to this book was it going to be boring, but I haven’t been bored once. One connection I have with this book is when I think what the people look like I think of I AM LEGEND the movie with Will Smith in it.

I plan on reading the rest of this book over break. Also my plan is to get a lot of pages so that I can reach the 450- page requirement for next month. I’m going to have to read almost every day.

This month, I have read about 180 pages. I have abandoned 2 books this month after reading the first 10-20 pages because they had nothing that caught my attention and bored me. The book I am reading now is called “Wild Man Island”. The author is so detailed in this book, I feel like I am actually in the narrators place (an island surrounded by water)as he tells his story. He describes the island, sea animals, what he’s thinking, his plans, and thoughts so detailed. When he talk about the weather for example, the boating accident in the beginning, I can feel how cold the water is to him, especially when the wind blows, and because his clothes are wet, it makes it worse. I have gotten water splashed on me before in the cold, and when he wind blows, it’s almost like you can feel the fabric freeze to your skin. The character starts out as someone that thinks he knows what he’s doing, and how to do things. But after an accident he realizes he’s wrong and is now all by himself. He talks about his fathers death, and how old he was when his father died, you can picture the scene of it all as you read it, and feel the same feelings as he character; upset, depressed, like he has lost something. Over Christmas break, I plan to finish the pages that I have left in this book, and find a new book to start reading so I can be prepared for the additional 100 page for next month since I normally hit a C or B average of pages. The thing/s that I need to do differently is read more, and read faster, so I can meet the requirement for January.

December Reading Reflection
Mackenzie E.

The book I’ve been reading has been Marked. I don’t have any clue on how many pages I have read. I think I’ve read over 175 pages. The books I have read were Breaking Dawn and Marked. The only time I read Breaking Dawn is when I forgot my book. Which was often. I didn’t abandon any book really, because once I started the books, I didn’t want to stop reading it.
On the grading chart, I think I deserve a B. The reason I think this is because I didn’t meet the standard goal for the reading. I have a really hard time reading out of school for some reason. But I think if I was to read out of school like on my way to softball practices, or on the road for something and I wasn’t driving, I think I could of reached the goal. If I would of stuck to that, I would of met the 350 pages goal! So next semester, I’m definitely going to read when I’m out of school, on the road, or when I’m just sitting at home, so I can make that goal.
The book Marked was about a normal (well some what normal) teenage girl who was practically dating the star quarterback of the football team of her school. Until one day, there was something or someone standing by her locker after school, and marked her with a light blue crescent moon on her forehead. When Zoey got marked, she had to go to the House Of Nights so she could finish the transformation into a Powerful Vampri safely. When she got there Neferret (head mentor) asked her about her mark, normally when a young vampri comes into the house of nights, their crescent isn’t all the way filled in, but hers was. After all that Nefferret showed her to the dorms, and on their way there everybody was staring at Zoeys light blue mark while they was walking through the courtyard. Zoey was starting to feel out of place, but somewhat fitting in with everyone.
For Christmas Break, I’m planning on reading a lot so I can get ahead, and get somewhat close to my new goal! I’m going to definitely try and finish Breaking Dawn, after I’m done with Marked and the rest of the series. Then maybe if I get those done, I’m going to try and read a book I abandon last quarter called Saving Zoey. I really liked that book but I just stopped reading it because Marked caught my attention.
Next semester is going to be a challenge for me because I already don’t like to read, but I think if I find a really good book I can get into, I'd be able to reach that goal! It will affect my sleeping time, because I’ll know I wont want to put the book down, and I’ll be up all night reading! The things I’ll need to do differently is definitely read a lot more. Also I need to pick better books! Also I’m going to have to pick not so big books. Like if they are 780 pages, I think that’s a little to big for me, unless it’s a really good book, then I might be able to do it. But I think if I stick to 150-200 page books, ill be able to read those faster and finish my goal quicker. I’m just going to have to read a lot more and when I have free time, I’m going to read.

I think I deserve an A, because I read about 250 pages this month. I read “The Lost Boy,” and that was pretty big. I didn’t abandon any books this month, because this month wasn’t very long. So I think deserve an A.

I pick “The Lost Boy” to summarize about. “The Lost Boy” was the sequel to the book “A Child Called It.” It just continues to talk about how the boy was treated, and how bad his life was when he was younger, it’s a true story. My reactions were, that I couldn’t believe the things this boy went through, and upset it made me to read about how his mom treated him. My thoughts were that, I couldn’t believe this boy had to go through this and no one took him away from his mom and gave him somewhere to live instead of there because that atmosphere and things she did was terrible. Feelings this book gave me were, upset and disbelief. It’s crazy to think this boy had to go through some of these things. Characters have changed because this boy got out of his horrible life, and wrote these books and doesn’t ever have to talk to his mom again.

I don’t know if I will read much over Christmas break, but if I do, I’m not sure what I’ll read.

I don’t think the 450 pages next month will affect me because I know I can do it. It won’t be that much of a problem to me to read extra. I will need to read more pages next month to reach the new reading requirement and to hit 450 instead of 350.

This month I read 270 pages. The books that I read were Rooftop, and Oscar De La Hoya. I did not abandon any books this month. Based on the grading chart I believe I deserve an A. I think this because I was supposed to read 240 pages for an A, and I read 270 so I think that is deserving of an A.

Rooftop was about a kid that had been caught with weed, and now goes to a camp type thing everyday. One day when he comes in after being chased by a dog that terrorizes him, he sees his cousin sitting there. He starts talking with his cousin that he hasn’t been around in a long time, and starts developing a friendship with him. They go on to get into a situation where someone won’t pay them the money they deserve, and they go up on this rooftop because the cops are after them. When the cops come up the cousin is acting like he is shooting a gun but is holding a wallet, and a cop shoots him. They go on to convict the cop of murder.

My reading plans over Christmas break are to read the book My Bloody Life. I think this book will be really good, and I am excited to read this, I will probably read about ten pages a day. Other than that I probably wont read too much.

This will affect me greatly because I usually only read about 380 to 400 pages a month, and if I have to read 450 now then I will have to set aside more time for reading. I will also need to find more books that I am interested in, because I don’t have a lot of books that I get excited about reading right now. This will be a true test for me, but I’m sure I will get it done.

This month I read 390 pages. The book, Obsession, was a difficult read that’s why I didn’t read more. I didn’t abandon any books because it took forever to read this one. I believe that I should get an A because I surpassed the reading requirement.

During Obsession my opinion of it changed. It is one of those books that take forever to get into and finish out with a bang. My initial reaction to the book was that it was wordy and I really didn’t understand what was going on most of the time. As the book ended I found out why it had to be so descriptive. The characters really changed in my book. But I wont explain why because that would completely give away what happens in the book.

Christmas break will be my free time and I will most likely read when I have the time to because I like reading. I plan of going to the bookstore because I have run out of books to read at my house. I know that next month the book requirement will be raised and I believe that I will be able to meet that because, like I said, I like to read.

This month I read about 160 pages I don’t know the exact number because my book is at home. I read “Becoming the Answer to Our Prayers”, I believe I deserve a C because I met the requirements for that grade. Next month I will make more time to read and I will read more in class.

What I have been reading about in the book this month is putting God first, prioritizing, and making time to “play”. My first reaction was surprise that this book is telling me to play, but when they say play they explain it just means to get in touch with a younger more peaceful you. When I saw this I thought it was a great idea because everyone takes life to seriously so why should we be serious all the time and never have fun when you could die at any time. I connected with this very well because my personal belief is to have as much fun as possible and to help others along the way.

My plans are to finish the book I am currently on and to start another book. I think I will have to read a lot more than I do right now because I don’t read at home that much at all.

In the month of December, I read 245 pages. I read the books Forever Changes (181), and Tyra Banks (64). I did not abandon any books this month. I think I deserve an A for this month’s reading reflection, because I read a little of the amount of pages required.

The book Forever Changes was about a teenage girl who has lived all her life with cystic fibrosis and everything was hard for her. She was a very smart and intelligent girl. And her life revolved around MATH! It was her favorite subject and she loved helping those who didn’t understand it as well as she did.

In the Book Forever Changes I thought that Briana (the teenage girl with CF) was very nice and helping to those who needed it. I also felt that her father was always there for her even though Briana was mean to him at times. He loved her and always tried helping her look towards the future because she never thought she’d make it very far. The theme of this book changed a couple of times. Sometimes the theme would be at school in the math room, lunchroom, or computer lab. The one time it was at MIT this club she was in. Another time she the theme was at her doctor’s office.

Over Christmas Break I plan to start reading my book for my American History 150 class with Mrs. Sherard. And I might read for fun when I get bored. As next semesters reading requirement changes from 350 pages to 450 pages I don’t think it will affect me much. I’ll just have to read everyday to meet this requirement.

December Reading Reflection from Joseph F. L. Eaton (KHN)
First off, I read over the set standard, I ended up somewhere in the areas of over one thousand pages. I read ‘No Country for Old Men’, ‘The Legend of Zelda and Philosophy; I Link Therefore I Am’, ‘Saiyuki Gaiden’, ‘Zelda Majora’s Mask’, ‘No Touch of Tea for Destiny’, ‘Cirque du Freak’ (#’s 1-6), and a couple others that I don’t remember because I abandoned them. Regardless of that though, I did rather well over December I think an A is fitting, after all extra credit is out of the question and I overdid it again.

Ok, now you get the summary of ‘No Country for Old Men’. It starts off in the middle of nowhere. After you pick up the book, you are lost from there on out. The usual rule of using quotation marks around dialogue in text was broke. The author, Cormac McCarthy didn’t use a single quotation mark in that book. It was rather confusing for a bit, but after he had someone speak it normally had the actions that followed the dialogue and it specified what was said and who said it. But still though, I hated the way the author wrote the book. I enjoyed the book yes, but it was one of those books that if I could have gone back in time, I’d have smacked Mr. McCarthy for writing like that. Harsh to say so, but it’s the honest truth.

No offense Mrs. Laipple, but if you actually think that any of us are gonna read over Xmas break I think you’re funny. I’m a nerdy bookworm and I’m probably not gonna leisurely walk into my room, grab a random book from my personal library and read for enjoyment. I have too many plans over the break to be using up that time for reading or anything academic.

And about the new amount of pages we have to read, I’m not sweating over it. I can get 450 pages read in less than half a month, so I’m not worried about having to do anything different. I read about a thousand different things at once, and furthermore, I write for leisure so if I need to read, it’ll probably be over that. Well, Mrs. Laipple, I hope that you have a good Xmas, and I’ll see you in January!!!

I’ve read 260 pages this month. I finished the book I’ve been reading for a while at the beginning of the month and now I’m reading Brothers in Arms. I think I deserve an A for this month.
In the book Brothers in Arms, a Mexican kid named Martin lives in a bad neighborhood where there are gangs and a lot of shootings. One day him and his friends were hanging out when Martins brother was spying on him. He’s always doing this so he just says to go somewhere else; but when his brother leaves he comes running back and there’s a car following him when they shoot him. His brother is now trying to find who did it and get payback. Martin has changed a lot since his brother died. All he wants to do is hangout with his homeboys and try and find the killers of his 8 year old brother. Him and his mom moved away from the neighborhood now and Martin is going to a different school; about an hour away from his old one. I haven’t really got much farther but I really like the book so far and I like how the author gets into detail about what’s happening at that moment in the book.
I don’t really plan on reading over break because I don’t want to think about school when we are on break. Next semester I think ill be fine on reading 450 pages as long as I find some good books to read and I like them

For the month of December I read a total of 300 pages. I finished the book Maximum Ride: Schools Out-Forever started reading Jealousy by Lili St. Crow. I did not abandon any books this month. Based on the grading chart I believe I deserve an A because I read over 240 pages.

The book I’m going to focus on for this reflection is Jealousy. It’s a strange novel about Angles and I really like it. The main character Dru Anderson has dated many bad guys and over that time she’s found out whom she can and can’t trust. I can connect with her on this because I’m at the point in life where I’m finding out who my real friends are too and who I can trust with stuff and who I cant. Dru is also losing a lot of people in her life now, like her parents and her protectors. So she’s running for her life from Sergej who wants to tear her to shreds all alone. As I’m reading this I feel scared for her, being all alone with no one to trust would be scary. I’ve felt like this before too, like I have no one on my side and all alone, just not with my life on the line like Dru. This book really keeps me interesting it one of the twisted books that keeps you wondering when you get done reading.

I really don’t have any plans to read over break because I have a lot of family stuff going on. Maybe if I get bored I might read my book, but probably not. With next semesters reading requirements being raised to 450 I might just have to make myself read over break to make sure I meet the requirement. I’ve been just barely meeting 350 so to read 100 more pages ill have to really put my mind to it and not forget I need to read everyday.

I read about 350 pages this month. I finished “Just Listen” and I started “Diva”. I started to read a book called “Dreamland” but I kind of abandoned it for now. I might come back to it, but for now I decided to read “Diva”. I think I deserve an A. I read way over 240 pages. Next month since we have to read 450 pages, I will have to read a little bit more than I have been. I will probably need to start reading on my own time some and not just at school when we have SSR in class.

The book I finished was called “Just Listen”. This was a really good book. The author was Sarah Dessen and I think she is a really good author. I’ve read several of her books and I seem to like them all. “Just Listen” was about a girl (Anabel) who got raped by a guy at a party (her best friends boyfriend) and she can’t bring herself to tell anyone. She looks like the one to blame because she was alone in a bedroom with him. He told everyone that she was trying to come onto him.

During the book, Anabel realizes she is not who she pretends to be while she is modeling. She realizes this as she talks more and more to a guy she just met named Owen. He helps Anabel realize who she really is and that people love the real her. He teaches Anabel how to do what’s best for her and not to just do things to please other people. He also helps her to open up like she never has before.

Throughout the book Anabel really did change. She learned how to deal with situations better the more she talked with Owen. She use to run away from her problems but she learned to start dealing with them. This book really had a way of pulling me in. It made me want to keep reading to know what happened next with Anabel and Owen and Anabel and her Sisters.

I plan to read some over Christmas break. In order to get to 450 pages next month I am going to have to read at least some on Christmas break. I usually don’t think about reading out of school but hopefully since I like the book I am reading now I will want to. I don’t think it will be a problem for me to get to 450 pages in January, all I will have to do is read a little bit more.

I read around 400 pages this month. The only book I read this month is The Vampires Assistant; it was three books in one. I think I should get an A because I went over the reading limit; well over the reading limit.

The Vampires Assistant was very odd, long, and descriptive at times but it was all together good. My first reaction to the book was wow this is different then the movie in a lot of ways. Then I thought well maybe the difference is a good thing because although they are different they are both still very good. I was upset with the parents of Darren (one of the main characters) because although his friend wasn’t the best person in the world they still deserved to be friends. It shouldn’t be the parent’s choice who his friends are if the child isn’t in danger. But then I realized that they were only trying to protect him. It made me sad at times and happy at others. It was all -together a good book or books should I say. The characters changed a lot, one went from a human to a vampire, one went from alive to dead, and one meet a boy the changed her world. It’s always a sappy love story in the end.

I couldn’t tell you what I was going to read over Christmas break, I’ll most likely get a gift card to some book store so I’ll be reading a lot.

The effects of the page requirements won’t affect me much; because I already read a lot and I read over 450 sometimes anyway.

This month I read 283 pages. I read “Confessions of a Shopoholic.” I did not abandon any books for this month. Based on the grade chart I think that I deserve an A because I read a little more then the required 270. My book that I read this month was about a girl who grew up with her parents being very frugal with their money. The main character has a very expensive taste. When she grows up, despite all the money saving tips her parents gave her she goes into serious debt with a lot of credit card companies. I didn’t understand how she could go into so much debt knowing that her parents saved every penny they had. I would recommend this book to a friend because it has a lot of money saving tips so that you wont go into debt, and I think they would like the humor that goes along with the book. I really enjoyed this book. Now my plan is to see the movie that goes with it.

My plans for Christmas break are to relax since we don’t have to worry about finals for a while, and I am going to spend a lot of time with my family because of the holiday. All I’m going to read over break is the newspaper.

When you raise the reading requirement to 450, I think I might struggle a little because I don’t read that much outside of school. But I am sure I can make that requirement. I am going to start taking my book with me everywhere so I can pick it up and read to get more pages.

This month I read 130 pages and the book that I read was called The Negro Leagues. There was another book that I tried to read but I just couldn’t get into it like this one it were called Heat. I think that my grade should be a C cause I did read the amount of pages and I did read most days in class and finished a book this month. Next month I will have to get a bigger book to read so I can get that A to help out my grade
In this book it was about how black people made there own league to play in cause the MLB would not let them play cause there color, that reminded me of all the things that Martin Luther King said about everyone is the same so it don’t matter your color. There was guys in the book that changed the game for example by the end of the book black and white players were playing together and playing good! Some of the connections I made was when they were turned down to play in the MLB to me that was like when I was little and people said I wasn’t the type of baseball player they wanted that why I don’t play today. It was a really good book though it keep my attention.
In the next reading period I am going to have to step it up and read at least 15 pages a day or I wont pass the class. So I have to do whatever it takes to pass cause I am an athlete . so over Christmas break I am going to go get a book I know I will be into and start to read it so that I can get the A next time so it will help my grade.

This month I finished the ever-long book The Runaway Jury by John Grisham. I read the last 120 pages of it and I am now reading The Street Lawyer by John Grisham. The very first part of this book had you hooked sitting on the edge of your seat. It started out with an explosion instead of a bang. The starting of this book was an act of terrorism that ended with a death and a better man. The man with blood splattered all over his face from the assassinated terrorist had his eyes opened for the bettering of his community. Based on the reading chart I believe I deserve an A. With all the readings we have been doing in other classes, books, and in this class, I believe I am well over the required amount for this month.

The Runaway Jury had a great ending that I never in a million years seen coming. Come to find out, Marlee’s mother and father were killed from smoking cigarettes. The money she received for the verdict all went to the stock market. She used the ten million dollars to make much more through the tobacco companies stocks. Nicholas delivered a plaintiff’s verdict, which would also cost the tobacco companies millions. Nine votes to three, the plaintiff’s were awarded but more than that many people who had lost loved ones to smoking, were blessed with knowing justice was served. This verdict also gave the historical Rankin Fitch his first litigation loss after 9 trials. Over break I plan on continuing to read The Street Lawyer. These new requirements will hurt me a little because I do not always have the most time to read. This. will force me to take my book with me every where and read every opportunity I get.

I read over 400 pages this month. I read a book called “Dug Down Deep,” which was a little over 200 pages. Also I read another book that I’m still reading called “Thirteen Reasons Why,” which I have read at least 200 pages of. I didn’t abandon any books this month. Based on the grading chart I believe I deserve an A because I read way over 240 pages, which was the reading requirements for the month.

The book that I read fully this month was “Dug Down Deep.” It was about the author, Joshua Harris, explaining what he believes and why it matters. This is a Christian book so he talks about what he believes in spiritually. He talks about not dating the church, but actually being committed to it. There’s a scripture that talks about the church being the bride, and if we’re just dating it then we’re not fully committed like we should be. He also talks about other things like the Holy Ghost, sin, and other things.

My reactions to this book overwhelmed me because I felt like I was guilty (spiritually) the whole time while reading it. My thoughts about this book completely agreed with what Joshua Harris was saying. My connections that were made were mostly over what he believed in was similar to my beliefs. This was a non-fiction book so there wasn’t a plot, setting, or any characters really in there.

My plans for reading during Christmas break are finishing “Thirteen Reasons Why” because it’s a really great book. The fact that next semester the reading pages are going to increase doesn’t really affect me. If I read how much I’m supposed to read, which I’ve done every month, then I will be good to go. I’m sure I will make the requirements.

This month I have read about 257 pages. I have been reading Pride & Prejudice. I did not abandon any books this month. I think I deserve an A because I read over the amount of pages I needed to.

In my book Pride & Prejudice, Jane Bennet and Mr. Bingley find themselves starting to like each other. Jane’s mother couldn’t be happier. Mrs. Bennet will do everything in her power to get her girls married. Jane’s sister Elizabeth and Mr. Bingley’s friend Mr. Darcy kind of have a “thing” themselves. Even though when ever they talk to each other somehow they always end up fighting. Something is forming between them; they just don’t know it yet.
In a way I don’t want Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy to end up together, I don’t like the way he acts towards her. I think he is very stuck up and would get along great with Mr. Bingley’s sister who is the same way. I really like Elizabeth though, she says what she thinks, and is not afraid to say what she feels.

For this Christmas break I am going to try to read and maybe even finish Pride & Prejudice. It is still a very slow book to me and I really don’t want to give up on it. So I am going to do my best to really sit down and read it. I also want to start this book that my cousin gave me, I can’t remember the name but it looks really good.

With the number of pages being raised I am not sure how this will affect me. If I am reading a good book that I like, then I think I will be fine. Also I think I will have more time after school now to get things done, so I will have more reading time. Over all I don’t think it will be a big problem for me, I will just have to read more, and make sure my books any enough pages.

This month I have read a total of 225 pages. I switched on and off reading the bleachers, and darkness before dawn. I have not finished the books yet but im close to it. I didn’t abandon any books this month. I had been carefully reading the two books on and off trying to increase my reading status. Reason being is being I usually do not meet the total amount of pages needed for the month because I find myself either not reading, or slowing down to read to find more understanding in the book im reading, and because of that I have not been getting good grades on my reflection and number of pages read for the month.
Based on the grading chart I would say I deserve a B. Not an A because I didn’t quit meet the requirement for the month. So next time that will be my plan to meet the total amount of pages that were meant to be read for the month. I will try to read more, or just the right amount.
One of the books out of the two that I have been reading called, the bleachers, is a book I really enjoy reading. Reason being is because it’s about a boy, who plays sports and is now grown. He was an awesome high school football player, and later went on and played pro football. Which that didn’t turn out to well, because he got hurt. So as he heard the news back in his home town that is high school football coach was on his death bed, he made a visit back to his home town and met back up with all of his old teammates, and they talked bout the old days, about the things they missed, didn’t missed, and wished they would have done. Though all of that I was abe to make connections thoughts and all because me myself is a athletic, and one day that could be me, meeting up with all of my teammates again talking about the old times. I could one day appear back here in the bleachers in the Springer gym talking about practice days and game days. Just like in the book.
Over break I do not expect to read. I think the only reading I will do is the score sheets of basketball games over break.

I have read 288 pages this month. I had just finished High Heat By: Carl Deuker. This book kind of made me sad because it talked about baseball a lot and I am unable to play now due to a bad elbow. I also had many connections with this text like when his dad got arrested and when I was younger my father did too. And another connection I have is that he was a pitcher and so was I.

I believe I should receive a (B to a B-) because the paper says you must have 249 for a B and I accomplished more than that. My goals for Christmas break is too read two books, one of them will probably be about sports, and I would like the other one to be an action book. I would like for them too be at least 200-300 pages long. If I a lot of free time I should read more than two though.

My book was about a boy named Shane and he played baseball for his high school team. But when his father was accused of a charge and put in jail Shane had too move. Shane was moved with his mom and sister into a tiny apartment. Shane had never gone to a public school and decided he had lost the love for the game after moving. He then was playing and purposely hit a kid on the other team. Once he realized what he had done and him and the injured boy had too work there’re demons out.

Next time we do a reading reflection I want to aim for about 500 pages reading 15 a day. And focusing on my grades way more than I was. Reading is not one of my favorites but I think it will improve my learning skills in more than language arts.

This month I finished the last about 300 pages of my book, A Kiss in Time. I did not intentionally abandon any books this month, but there were a few that I read maybe 20 pages or so out of when I didn’t have my own book with me in class. Based on the different scale this month I believe that I deserve an A for this reading reflection.
This book is basically a new spin on the classic sleeping beauty fairy tale. A princess is guarded all her life from everything. She’s not allowed to leave the castle walls, and must be watched at all times. Her life is like this because a curse was placed on her when she was just a little girl at her christening party; before her sixteenth birthday, she would prick her finger on a spindle and fall into a deep deep sleep until her true love comes to wake her with a kiss. The day of her sixteenth birthday came, and she was tricked by a witch into touching a spindle. Meanwhile, a seventeen-year-old boy is running around Europe with his best friend and having fun when they stumble upon a very old looking town of sleeping people (this was also part of the curse). He found the castle, and the sleeping princess inside. He kissed her, she awoke, and then the real trouble begins. Basically, this book tells the story of these two main characters and how their lives become intertwined.
I really enjoyed this book because I really love reading spin-offs of old classic fairy tales. During the time that I was finishing the book, I continued to wonder if this would be simply a modern version of Sleeping Beauty or if there would be some pronounced changes; in fact there were many differences that the classic tale, and for me that was what made this story very interesting and kept me turning the pages. While I was reading, I also noticed that the characters did change drastically from the beginning to the end; some characters (like the girl’s father for instance) was a very mean and surly man at the start of the book, but by the end he was just happy to be alive and to have his family. Also, the guy also changed throughout the book. At first he just wanted to use Talia to make his ex jealous, but towards the middle and definitely at the end he was head over heals for Talia.
Over Christmas break I plan to finish the Bill O’Reilly book that I was reading earlier in the year. As far as making the reading requirements for next semester, I think that I will be okay. Some months I barely make it, and still others I’m over the required amount by a lot. Though, I still think that I will need to make myself sit down and read so I can be sure that I make it that month.

For the whole month of December I have read about 300 pages. I have read You Don’t Know Me By: Ray Charles Robinson Jr. It was the only book that I have read for the past month. I believe I deserve an “A” for how many pages I have read for the past month. I met my reading goal for the month.

My book was basically about the author’s dads, Ray Charles life, and relationship he had with his father. So this book was a biography that I read. I have learned a lot off things about Ray Charles that I didn’t know before I red the book. I believe his son wrote the book very well. I was able to really see and feel what was going on in the book. I got clear picture of what was going on in his dad’s life with the fame and drug abuse that was taking part in his life. The book gave you and the picture on how his dad got to were he is today because of what he accomplish in his lifetime.

I don’t really have any plans to read over Christmas break, unless I get really bored. If I do read anything it will have be a book that I will find at home that I will read again. I also don’t think I’m going to be affected by the new reading requirement because I have always met it and I read more than is required most of the time. I don’t believe I will have to do anything differently to meet the reading requirement.

This month I finished “The dark side of love” by Rafik Shami (about 1030pg), I read “Nevermore” by Kelly Creagh (about 350 pages), “The Thirteenth Tale” by Diane Setterfield (about 400pg), “Fallen” by Lauren Kate (about 450pg) and “hush, hush” by Becca Fitzpatrick (about 400 pages). I did not abandon any books. Totally, I read about 2630 pages. I think I deserve an A.

The book I liked most and read fastest was “hush, hush”. It is not what you would call a book of big value for education, but the theme fascinated me. I have been interested in the legends and ancient stories of angels since I can read and always tried to find more information about these pre-Christian myths.
The book itself was about a girl who is attracted to a dangerous looking boy. The better she gets to know him the more dangerous becomes her life. Someday she reveals his secret: he is a fallen angel who wants to be a human.
Now here is what I found out about the version of the angel’s legend in this book: he fell from heaven because he loved a human woman and wanted to be human to live with her. He did not know that he would not become human if he falls but only a shadow of an angel who cannot feel pain or desire. That’s why he wants to possess a human body to feel again. He found his victim: a Nephilim (hybrid of an human and an angel) and possesses him.
What I have been asking me is why he wants to possess someone. In the old legends usually only demons can possess a human being. I would not want to say that fallen angels equal demons because that is not true. You could see demons as servants of the first fallen angel Lucifer. Lucifer is always named the devil, but nobody really knows that he was an angel: God’s favorite and the most powerful angel in heaven. He fell because he wanted what we all want: freedom! God gave us our willpower to decide freely and that was just was Lucifer wanted. So he was human in some way – so why would we call him devil, animal and the pure evil if he just wanted to be like us? Some would say that he betrayed heaven when he rebelled against God, but he is also a being made by God so it would just be fair to say that he could be as free as we are. Maybe that is why God sent him on earth, but why did he get this bad reputation? Fallen angels are always equaled with bad things, but maybe the truth is that they are more like us than we think. I want to read more about this subject and I guess that I have to search in even older literature than the Bible, because the angels’ legends are as old as humanity (or even older, who knows…).

During Christmas break I wan to read some German book again, because I miss my mother tongue. I will probably read some classics by Goethe, I am not sure yet.
I also got some books from Ms. Lock about India and the Middle East, because I always like to read about foreign cultures, especially the Middle East and Arabia.

The new reading requirement will not affect me at all. I think I already fulfilled it the last semester. I think you could even raise it a few pages more and I would not have a problem. (I read more than 2000 pages just this month).

I’ve read approximately 800 pages this month. I’ve read “Dark Deceiver”, “The Fury”(one of the Vampire Diaries books), and also half of “Dark Reunion” (another of the Vampire Diaries books). “The Fury” and “Dark Reunion” are different books but where published in the same book so the title on the book says “The Vampire Diaries- The Fury and Dark Reunion”. I didn’t abandon any books. Based on the amount of pages I’ve read, I believe I should get an “A”.

The book I’ll choose to do my reflection on is “The Fury and Dark Reunion”. The book is about mainly vampires with a few other creatures of the night thrown in as well. I think the main idea of the book is love can conquer anything. When Katherine came to Fell’s Church I was surprised because I thought she was dead, well, dead in the sense of vampires turning into ash when in direct sunlight. I was surprised that her plan was to kill Damon, Stephen, and Elena. Elena not so much really though because Stephen gave her the ring that once belonged to Katherine. I was surprised when Damon told Katherine to “go to hell” after she told him she’d let him live as long as he killed Elena.

I would absolutely recommend this to people. I tend to recommend a lot of books. I’d especially recommend it to people who like “Twilight” or a romantic tragedy novel.

Over Christmas break I plan to read “His Best Friend’s Baby”, “Navajo Courage”, “Case File: Canyon Greek, Wyoming”. I hope to read one, if not all, of them at least. Maybe I’ll accidentally go to the public library over break as well.

I think I’ll do fine on the next semester’s 350-400 page reading requirement considering I always read more than that a month. I’ll probably have that met by the time break is over.

This month, I’ve read more than three hundred pages. I’m not sure exactly how many pages I’ve read, though. I read the book titled Unwind and the book titled Sisters. Being worried about me abandoning a book is not a problem. I’ve only ever abandoned one book and that was when I was in the seventh grade.

The book that I’m going to write about is Unwind. Basically, it’s a futuristic story about a time when, until they reach the age of eighteen, you can have your children taken apart and every single part of them is donated and used to help out another human being. In the book, a boy named Connor refuses to be unwound. He sets off on a journey for survival and picks up a few friends on the way. He, Risa, and Lev make their way across the country towards hope and freedom as they try to escape the juvie cops and the impending nothingness that is before them.

While I was reading this book I could feel the despair and the hopelessness that the characters did. I could feel how the characters did and I could feel the way that they changed. All in all, it was a tremendous book and anyone who doesn’t read it is a fool.

I don’t plan on reading much of anything on Christmas Break. I’ll be packing to move.
