October Reading Reflection
The focus of your reading reflection will be one book you read over the past month and a half. This reading reflection will have multiple parts. Each part will have multi-paragraphs. However, if you didn’t finish a book this reading cycle or didn’t make the required number of pages this will be difficult.
This reading reflection is not meant to be a polished piece of writing. I do, however, expect you to be mindful of Standard English, correct capitalization and punctuation.
First Part:
- How many pages did you read this month?
- What were the titles of the books you read?
- Based on the grading chart, what grade do you believe you deserve
A = 350– + = 20 pts
B = 249-349 = 17 pts
C = 148-248 = 15 pts
D = 147-97 = 13 pts
F = 0-97 = 11pts
- If you did not meet the page requirement, make a plan for next time. How will you meet the reading requirements?
Second Part:
Pick one book that you read this month as the focus of your reading reflection. Go back to your reading reflections in your notebook and reflect on: your reactions, thoughts, feeling, connections made, how characters changed, themes, etc. as you were reading.
Would you recommend/or not recommend this book to another person? Why? What kind of person would like this book?

I read 325 pages this month. I read Jackie Robinson and part of Victorian America and the Civil War. I believe I deserve an" A ". I didn't meet the requirement but I was only 25 pages off so I think I did pretty good this month.
Jackie Robinson was my favorite. One reason i liked this book so much is that I love Baseball and he was the first African American to play baseball. He lived in a slave family before trying out for the Brooklyn Dodgers. I would recommend this book to any sports and history fan because not only is it about baseball but it also describes a little about how slavery was during his time.
his month, I sadly only read about 170 pages. I only attempted to read one book which was “Boot Camp”. I did not make the requirements, but actually am not that mad at myself as I have had a lot going on. However, by next reading log I will have a lot more pages read. I will not forget my book at home or in my car, and I will read in school nearly every opportunity.
This month, I got about half way through “Boot Camp”. My thoughts were always the same, I loved this book. The character changed I could see through the book. He started off a regular teenage punk, who went to jail, but starts to become a better man. I would defiantly refer this book to almost anyone. Because it is that good, and I believe almost anyone would like this book. jayden deatherage

I read 220 pages this month. The books I read were "Spiders in the hairdo” and " Touching spirit bear". Cole a main charter in my book is very interesting to me. Throughout the story he changes very dramatically, from a punk who cares about nothing to a lonely kid stuck on an island fighting for his life.
The only reason Cole was sent to the island is because he hurt Peter a kid he goes to school with badly. Now Peter's parents are pressing charges and this is not Cole's first time being in the courtroom. A troubled kid because his parents are alcoholics and are abusive.
While on the island Cole finally meets someone who he can’t take on, the spirits bear. After being beaten by this bear Cole is helpless. As he is lying there he realizes that he is responsible for every bad thing that has happened to him, not his mom and dad.
This book made me realize that people can change. Things happen and people do forgive. I was hooked in the book the whole time I was reading it.

This month I have read 273 pages, and 56 of them was a magazine.
The two things I read was EA Sports Magazine on Albert Pujols, and a book called “Sunrise Over Fallujah” and I’m going to add in that it is the best book I have ever read and really want people who enjoy action packed books to pick it up.
I did not make the amount of pages required but, I think I deserve a high B or somewhere around their.
Next time I will just have to up my reading amount before bed, and just cut out time in the day to relax and pick up a book.

This month I read 605 pages. Out of three books; Cruise Control, Hole in my Life, and Box Out. so I earned an A for this month I would say.
The book I want to focus this reading reflection on is Hole in my Life, by Jack Gantos. Going back in my notebook I can tell I was very excited during this book, and I always predicted Jack to get caught by the police. I guess that is because he was always doing something wrong. I also noticed that in this book I made a lot of connections to my life, when Jack was feeling down, and like he could not do what he wanted to do. from my first reflection, to my last reflection Jack went from a bad person, to a person trying hard to stay clean. And it made me respect his character a lot more throughout the book.
Yes I would recommend this book to another person, no matter what kind of person they are, mainly because it is about a lesson that many of us will learn throughout our lives "break the law, and you will eventually get caught." So reading a biography like this could change someones mind about breaking the law in the first place.

This month I read 1397 pages. I read City of Bones, City of Glass and Just listen. I think based on the reading chart I deserve an “A” because I went over the amount to read by a thousand pages.
The book City of Bones, is an amazing book. The whole series is great. The book makes you feel so sad at times. Like when Clary’s mom put herself into a coma but Clary didn’t know she did it with magic. That’s when Clary found out she was a shadowhunter. When she cried about it, it made you want to cry with her cause you wonder why her mom would lie to her about practically being a natural born hero.
Another very emotional part is when Simon (Clary’s best friend), gets turned into a vampire, and some how he always becomes the bait for catching people. But not on purpose. But when you read that Simon is dead and needs to be buried to transform completely to a vampire, it feels as if your heart drops because Simon is just Simon. You feel as if nothing should happen to him. But when he turns into a vampire that can walk into day light because Jace gave him his blood. Its just so great.
I would so recommend this book to whoever like action and suspense. This book is good for anyone who likes to read about a different world out there and also likes funny moments.
This month i started to read Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki and this month I have read around 140 pages out of it, than I also read at home around 45 pages of Banking 2.0. This year is a real struggle to get my 350 pages in because I'm always at work and always have so much homework to do. Out of both books I read about 185 pages based on the grade chart I deserve a C. I didn't meet the page requirements for this month and I'm not really too sure what I can do to reach this next month. I don't think I'm really going to try to get the 350 pages, because its hard to get past 200, so if I can get a C or B that would be great! Now I'll tell you about Rich Dad, Poor Dad. This book I haven't even finished yet but it is absolutely amazing. It really gave a good in site about the way the two different classes think, for example how the High Class thinks and the Middle Class thinks, and trust me they think nothing a like. For example the poor strongly believes in "go to school, get a good education, get good grades, and get a secure job" but then the High class don't believe that at all, and I agree with him. The reasons why I agree with him, is because we are sitting in school for 8 hours a day learning some things that might not even benefit us when we get into the real world. One great example is they don't give you any education on how money works or even how to save, spend money. I don't quite know how my generation is going to make it without learning how to spend our money and I personally think that it's important that we learn now. And I also think that schools should have a required class for students to take about money, if only they read this book. This book also had some funny things about it. It talked about when the author was young (about 5 years old) got with his friend because he wanted to rich and his dad told him he had to go make money, well the author and his friends thought, he really meant go MAKE money. So they saved up tooth paste bottles that were made from some kind of steel back then and when they had enough the melted it and pored it into some kind of mold that they made, showed the authors dad and told him that they were rich. I think that was pretty funny. The author and his friend did get a job though, just to find out how to make money works, they got a job at the author Roberts friends parents store that they owned. They found out how money works and how labor worked and how to save their money. This book is great for everyone, not just people who like to learn about money/business like me, but I still think everyone needs an in site on money now, or they will never learn. This book really made me feel good about having a job and making money. I think after reading most of it that it will be a lot easier to save my money.

This mouth I read 290 pages. The book that I was reading was called Diva by Alex Flinn. Based on the grading chart I think that I should have a B. to meet the reading required pages I will have to read more at home.
While I was reading Diva the main character is Caitlin. She is interested in opera, she use to be actuality really fat and got made fun of but she went to a camp and lost a lot of weight. Her “friends” where only friends with her because of who her boyfriend was at the time. Her boyfriend was abusive to her and she allowed him till she got rid of him. But she still had them friends to talk to. She had not told them about her love for opera because she is afraid to get made fun of. Caitlin moves to a different school for the singing and other things. She meets people that have the same things in common with her. Caitlin has changed by being more truthful with who she is and what she likes to-do and not hiding it from people at her new school.

Reading reflection
This month I have only worked on two books. The first one that I worked on was eldest. I read it for about two weeks and read about 120 pages until I lost interest in the book. The second book and the book I am currently reading is the lord of the rings the two towers. I am currently on page 193. This makes a total of 313 pages this month.
The book I choose to reflect on is the lord of the rings. One the reasons I love J.R.R. Tokens books is because he is not afraid to really add a lot of detail in his books. He takes the time to explain every since. Touch, smell, sight, and sound. You feel as though you are actually apart of what you are reading. And that’s the reason on my list of favorite authors he is on top.
Last month I read about 510 pages so this month I’m a little disappointed with only 313. So based on the chat I think I disserve a b.
For the month of October I read a total of 2445 pages and 8 books. The books are The Dressmaker, Linger, Black Hills, Private Life; Peeled, Stalking the Vampire, Jekel Loves Hyde, and The Juvie Three. Based on the grading scale I think I should get an A for the month. One of the books I really liked that I read this month was Peeled by, Joan Bauer. This book is about a small farming town in the “Apple Valley” that is consumed with fear and frustration after a break-in is reported at one of the abounded orchards. A reporter from the local high school paper (HIldy) takes up the story and begins trying to find the truth behind the stories the local newspaper is putting out.
The first reading response I did a summary of the part of the book I had read to that point. For the second and finale response I drew a picture of one of the sections that stood out to me more than the others. The picture I drew was of the town meeting the Mayor was having to “discuses” plans he had to “improve” the town. My picture has the Mayor standing on a stage looking down at all the angry townspeople that he tried to keep away from the meeting. I liked this part because I felt it showed how back handed people could be especially if they’re in “power”.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good ghost story, romance or mystery book. I think that the type of person that would read this book would be mostly girls but some guys might like it too.

The month of October I read a total of 245 pages. The first book I read was called, "He's just not that into you" which had 187 pages. Then I started the book called, "The lost boy," which I only read 28 pages. While I started "The Lost Boy" I also started reading "Burn," which I'm on page 30. I think I deserve a B because i read 245 pages.
The book I picked to focus on is, "He's just not that into you". My thoughts about this book changed through out the book because I disagreed with some things Greg was saying and untrue. I would recommend this book to someone who likes to read about real stories and people. I wouldn't recommend this book to a boy because it's kind of a girly book.

For this month I read 325 pages. I started Reading Deadline by Chris Crutcher and Dead Connection by Charlie Price. From the number of pages I’ve read I think I deserve a B. Dead Connection- While everyone else at school is doing normal activities and hanging out with friends, Kiefer is hanging out at the cemetery and making friends with the dead. But to Kiefer they are his friends. Somewhere in this a girl goes missing at school and no one has no idea of where she could be. All of sudden Kiefer starts hearing a new voice at the cemetery. After running into huge problems with the ground keepers daughter Pearl they become friends and try to work together on finding out who this new person in the cemetery is!
Deadline- I just started reading this book but so far I have found out that he has cancer and the doctors gave him a year to live. He isn’t telling his parents and he’s not taking treatment. Its sad that people have to go through this and I feel his pain because Ive had family members go through cancer. He’s very strong for not giving up because it doesn’t show that he is going through this difficult stage while everyone else is going through there senior year happy and ready to start their lives. I would recommend this book to someone just because of how hooked it already has me. It also makes you look at things a lot different.

This month I read 145 pages of Unseen Companion by Denise Gosliner Orenstein. It is about four different people; Loraine Hobbs, Annette Weinland, Thelma Cooke, and Edgar Kwagley. In the first part you are just told about the characters and what’s going on in their lives at the present moment, and what they dislike about it. It’s kind of boring at first, but it gets better, much better.
Lorraine Hobbs is a young girl who lives in Bethel, Alaska. She isn’t the richest girl, her and her mother work their butts off too make ends meet. Lorraine is the cook for the local jail. She cooks up all the extra food, then she delivers it too the jail for all the prisoners. She makes sure too pack a special treat in it, I personally think it’s very nice.
Annette Weinland is a young girl who takes care of all her younger siblings. Her mother left when they were all very young, she moved back too the “outside” world. Because it’s only Annette and her father too care for the children, she doesn’t really have a life. She cares for the kids, drops the older ones off at the babysitter, then takes the twin infants too the jailhouse, where she works with her. Annette has too do everything. She cooks, cleans, mends and makes clothes for everyone, and works up at the jail for extra money. It’s sad that a young girl of her age has too do all this and cant go off too college or somewhere else in the world. She is the daughter of the town’s preacher, but she sins everyday, she’s scared that her secret will be revealed. Will it?
Thelma Cooke, a young Yup’ik girl. She was sent off to a boarding school called Mt. Edgecumb. She was sent away from her entire family! Her sister, grandma, grandpa, her parents. She doesn’t really have any friends, except for her roommate. When Thelma starts too get comfortable, what she thinks is a friendly teacher, asks her too get in the car and go see Totem Park. He’ been drinking, but she gets in anyways. When they get there he parks the car, and he starts talking too her. He grabs her and pulls her close, telling her how good it feels too just hold her there, after awhile, he starts feeling on her, then he rapes her!
This is Trevor Brown and I believe I deserve a B for the reading in the month of October. I deserve a B because I read 329 pages in the month of October. The main books that I read was No Choirboy by Susan Kuklin, On the Devil's court by Carl Deuker and Cirque Du Freaks a living nightmare by Darren Shan.
I mainly read Cirque Du Freaks a living nightmare, which is about two teenage kids who go to an illegal freak show. While at the freak show they saw creatures such as a snake boy, a wolf man, and many other creatures. But before the freak show left town one of the boys decided to take one of the spiders that was in the freak show and played with it until the other boy found out and got bit by the spider and paralyzed. The only way for the boy to become unparalyzed is for the boy to find the owner of the vampire and get the cure.
I would recommend this book because it is a fantasy but it is also a adventure to save his friend’s life and protect his family from any harm that the freak show might make.
In the month of October I have read a grand total of 614 pages. The books I have read is the complete Horowitz Horror by Anthony Horowitz and New Found land by Allan Wolf. The grade I deserve is an A because I have read the well over 350 plus pages.
The book I will be telling you about my reactions, thoughts, feelings, connections made, how the characters changed, themes, etc. This all happened all while I was reading the book called New Found Land by Allan Wolf. This book is telling how these people have discovered a land is unknown to the American race and how these people have became to know each other really well. Also the people they had encounter with along the journey.
The people have some guts traveling across the nation that is not quite discovered yet. This has a cause of great risk because the way of the land is unknown. The feeling I had experience was excement, nervous and cant wait for what’s going to happen next. This relates to the outside world by when we tried something new like a sport, food or travel to a city or state. We didn’t know what to except. We were like a newborn baby is this great big world called Earth. As the book went on the characters became more comfortable and began to trust each as they continued this journey.
I would recommend this book to someone is the kind of people that would want to read adventure, mystery and not know what coming around the corner in a dark building.

This month I read 330 pages and the books I read were Lion Boy and I read some of Rebound. I was close to my reading requirement, so I think that I should get a B. The book that I am going to talk about is Lion Boy. So this book was about a boy named Charlie.
Charlie is a freshman in high school and one day when he comes home his parents are gone. One of his friends was sitting inside with a note saying that his parents went on a trip. Charlie was shocked when he woke up with his door locked, so he picked it and ran.
He lived by the zoo for a long time un tell he found his parents. This book was ok, but most of the times it was really slow. If so facto I do not recommend this book because it was slow.
Gage B
For the month of October, I have read a total of 353 pages. The title of the book I read is: The Complete Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm. I deserve an A because I have read three pages over the amount needed to get an A.
Since I read only one book, that one will be the focus of my reflection. This book is a collection of stories, so I can’t really make predictions. My reaction while reading some of these stories was surprising though. Many, if not all, seemed really dark for fairy tales. Cinderella for example; everyone has seen or at least heard of the Disney movie. In the Disney movie, there is a little girl whose father dies and is left with her wicked stepmother and stepsisters. However, with the help of her animal friends, and her fairy godmother, she overcomes the vile stepmother, marries the prince, and lives happily ever after. Well, it’s a little different in the book. Her father is alive, but the evil stepfamily is still present. She asks her father to bring her a twig, and plants it in her mother’s grave. That tree is the fairy godmother in this story, and a few birds help her out by giving her dresses as elegant as the last. The slipper is still the key to the prince’s heart. The stepsisters however, cut their heel and toes to fit the slipper. They also get their eyes plucked out by the birds that helped her from the beginning.
I would only recommend this book to people who like to read this kind of stuff. There are a lot of good stories, but many are repeated. The only things different from those that repeat are names and a few other changes. There are some stories that Disney had made into movies, so someone who used to watch and enjoy those movies might like this book. They might also like it if they like fairy tales, like those that parents and grandparents told us when we were young.

October Reading Reflection
PART ONE:
During the month of October I read 358 pages in. I read The Rules of Survival by Nancy Werlin and part of Final Freedom by Michael Vorenberg. Based on the grading chart I believe I deserve an A for barely making the cut. Next month, I will try harder to read when I have spare time.
PART TWO:
For this month’s reading reflection I will focus on reflecting upon The Rules of Survival by Nancy Werlin.
The Rules of Survival is different than most books because a kid writing to his younger sister narrates the story. When the story begins, there are four main characters. Matthew is the narrator of the story and the oldest sibling at the age of thirteen. Callie is the middle sibling at the age of eleven. Emmy is the youngest sibling at the age of three. Nikki is the mother of Matthew, Callie, and Emmy.
The story begins with Matthew, Callie, and Emmy in their apartment, their mother, Nikki, had left and gone out with a guy and left Matthew to watch his siblings. While she’s gone Matthew and Callie decide to go down the street to the store to get out of the hot apartment. They leave Emmy behind, who is sleeping quietly in the apartment. While they are at the store, they see this man yelling at his daughter and grabbing her arm and jerking it because she had opened a candy bar and started eating eat without his permission. Near the father and the daughter is this guy which we later to find out to be Murdoch.
Murdoch stands up to the father and tells him that he needs to leave her alone; Matthew and Callie praised him for this. They too know what it feels like to be abused by their parent. Matthew and Callie leave and return to the apartment. The next day Matthew sets out to find Murdoch. After a whole summer of searching for Murdoch they don’t find him and Matthew gives up. A year later is Matthew’s birthday and Callie surprises Matthew with the address where Murdoch lives. Nikki finds the piece of paper with his address and goes and introduces herself to him. They begin to start dating and this was the best in a long time that it had been for the kids, Murdoch became a father figure to the three kids. After dating for months, Nikki breaks up with Murdoch for not giving her what she wants (sex). Emmy, only being three years old keeps bringing up Murdoch, which angers Nikki so she brings home this guy and gives him what he wants in exchange for beating up Murdoch. She kept trying to get back at Murdoch, had guys beat him up, broke his truck windows, stalked him, anything she could think of, she did.
After abusing and neglecting the kids enough, Matthew sought help from Aunt Bobbie, Murdoch, and Ben (father). They began building a case against Nikki, calling every time she violated the restraining order from Murdoch. She followed him and followed, she became obsessed, but one night when she was waiting for Murdoch and he never came, she started following his neighbor, it was slick and icy and she crashed into her and paralyzed her where she could never walk again. When she was in jail, Ben and Aunt Bobbie sued for joint custody and won. After this, the kids moved out and Nikki tortured Aunt Bobbie with being reckless, tearing up the house, vandalizing it, but this was all part of a bigger plan to kidnap Nikki.
I would recommend this book to another person because this book is very interesting, it keeps your attention and captures your heart.

I read about 350+ pages this month so I think I deserve an A. The titles of my books were, “Beauty Shop For Rent” and also some of my dual credit history book, and that equals up to 350. I met the reading requirement for an A and that’s the grade I want.
The book I choose to blog about would be Beauty Shop For Rent. My thoughts were that they really gossiped a lot in the beauty shop. Connections to the book would be, that the same girls come to the same beauty shop and I go to the same beauty shop every time I go also. Characters in this book really didn’t change much either.
I don’t think I would recommend this book to anyone honestly because it didn’t keep my interest very much but I read it to finish it so I could have my pages done for this month. I like books that keep my interest, that just don’t drag on and on but this one really didn’t.
Austin H.
This month I have read Samedi the Deafness, and Perks of Being a Wallflower, together they have 503 pages. I deserve an A because I read beyond 350 pages.
I am picking the Perks of Being a Wallflower because it was my favorite book so far, my reaction at first was the book was going to be boring but as it went on I connected a lot and really liked it. My thoughts are everyone should read this book it really opens your eyes and realize a lot of things and how hard things can get.
This book made me feel a lot of things, I laughed, I got sad and angry but in the end it made me happy. I made many connections, the main character had a friend commit suicide and so has one of mine, a family very close family member of theirs died and I have went through that and finally the main character turns to drugs to deal with everything and makes changes and bad decisions.
At first the main character was a straight A student well behaved and made good choices, but as the book progressed his grades slipped and he started using drugs. I would recommend this book to anyone because it opens to your eyes and helps you see what people go through.

This month I read about 372 pages all together. I read all 180 pages of the book She’s got Next by Melissa King and I read 172 pages of the book Founding Brothers by Joseph J. Ellis for my book review in another class. I think I deserve at least an A if anything, because I read in and out of class to meet my goal. I didn’t think I could do it but when I really buckled down and dedicated time each day to read, I got it done. Founding Brothers is a non-fiction book about the founding of America and signing of the Declaration of independence. Honestly this book bores the crap out of me and if I wasn’t required to read it for my college class I wouldn’t even attempt it. This book certainly isn’t an easy read at all, it is written at a college level which makes it harder to understand and the fact that it is about American History makes it about a million times worse. There are parts that I have to read over and over a couple times just to grasp the concept of what it’s saying. I still have some reading to do before I am finished but I think with some hard work and time set aside just for reading it won’t be much of a problem. Most likely I won’t choose another book like this again.
Henrike F.
This month I read about 800 pages. The books I read were “Reckless” by Cornelia Funke (about 400 pages), I started “Jane Eyre” by Charlotte Bronte (about 330 pages) and “The strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” by Robert Louis Stevenson (about 70 pages).
Based on the grading chart I think I deserve an A.
The book that influenced me the most even if I have not finished it yet is Jane Eyre. The main character is a very young and inexperienced woman. She is only two years older than I am now and I somehow feel connected with her. She is not a beauty or very popular but she keeps her morals and dreams of freedom. When she starts to work as a governess at Thornfield Hall she falls in love with the older owner – Mr. Rochester. He is also described not to be a very beautiful man but when I read his description I also fell in love with his character somehow. He has such a good soul and loves Jane and wants to marry her, even though he could have a more beautiful and richer woman. This is the miracle of love that I am looking for – he chooses the better character over the looks and so does she. I have seen the film of the book before so I know how it ends and that there are problems for the couple that nobody expected. I am curious how the story develops and I will definitely finish the book.
I would recommend this book to everybody because it is one of the classics and the language is not as difficult as one might think. Of course boys would not want to read is so it would probably be a better lecture for girls that like love stories and love the novels from the 19th century in England – also good for Jane Austen fans.
Samantha B.
This month I read 928 pages. I read two books, Fallout, and Sold. I believe I deserve an A on the amount of pages I read this month because I’ve read way over the amount of recommended amount.
One of the books I read this month was Sold. This book was set in India. I thought this book was weird because it was about a girl getting sold by her step-father to a lady that went by the name auntie. And the auntie sold to another man which took her to a house and left her there. This house was a sex house. Their the girls were suppose to work to send money back to their families… At least that’s what they thought. The feelings I had while reading this book was I felt sorry for the girls in that house. And mad that the families would sell their children to a house like that.
I would recommend this book to another because it was interesting and kept my attention the whole time I was reading it. I would recommend this book to everyone not just on type of person.
Cassandra P.
This month I read over 350 pages, just from 1 book I read over one of the October weekends. But I read 30 pages of American Revolution, 20 pages from The Color of Water, and how ever many pages were in Twilight (600? 700?) I think I deserve an A for October reading because although I didn’t read in class, I did read Twilight over the weekend when I was bored. I didn’t do any reading reflections on Twilight, but I did some on The Color of Water, which started out as a good book until I had to start reading American Revolution for history class. The Color of Water – recommend this book because it had an interesting beginning and I can tell that the plot was going to be good too. My book was about a white Jewish mother who escaped away from her family, changed her name, fell in love with an African American and raised a family with him. The father died later on which was devastating and the kids were growing older. The perspective of this book is told from one of her sons, which would always ask his mother about her background and about God, and what color he was. When the mother told him that he was the color of water, I thought that was pretty cool which means that the mother is for all races opposed to her mother, father, family. I think anybody would like this book.
Fannon S.
During the month of October I read 350 pages. I finished Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment, then started Maximum Ride: Schools Out-Forever, and also started my book for American history Shay’s Rebellion. Based on the grading chart I believe I deserve an A because I tried hard to meet the requirements and I did. I feel I can still read more, and now that volleyball is over I think next month I can read over the requirement.
The book I am choosing to reflect on is Maximum Ride: Schools Out-Forever. Looking back on my reading reflections I felt like I was right there with the flock fighting off the erasers. When Fange got hurt really bad by the erasers I predicted that he’d be okay because the flock recuperates very quickly. I was correct and within a couple days the flock moved in with Anne who promised to help them and keep them safe. Throughout my book Max the leader of the flock learns and gets stronger with the help of the voice in her head. Which I predicted was Jeb back at the “school” trying to control her. But now that Anne’s taking care of the flock too Max is getting a little jealous. I can relate to Max with that because we all get jealous or upset when someone else comes in and does better then you at something. The last thing I read in my book was Anne sending the flock to a real private school with uniforms and everything. They are all dreading going to school just because the word “school” creeps them out because of there past at the other “school” where they were tested on. Also there dreading it just because no teenager wants to go to school. I can connect with them on that because I don’t like going to school either.
Yes I would recommend this book to another person. I think any kind of person would like this book just because its not just an ordinary book.

This month I read 470 pages. I read the books Deadlock, Dopesick, and Inside War The Guerilla Conflict in Missouri During the Civil War. Based on the grading chart, I believe I do deserve an A. I read multiple books, and I got well over the required amount of pages for the month.
The book I choose to reflect about is Dopesick. One of my reflections, was about the beginning of the book when Lil J was getting blamed for shooting the cop, and had just entered Kelly’s house. At this point in the book, I thought Lil J was going to shoot Kelly, and get caught, and either kill himself or get arrested. I later learned that this was totally wrong. He didn’t like anything about Kelly at first, and wanted to act tough, but in the end he ends up being intimidated by Kelly. This Kelly shows him what will happen if he keeps running, and Kelly’s character kind of changes too. He in the end helps Lil J get away. This was pretty heroic I thought, and saved an innocent guy, or a guy that deserves another chance. I can connect to this, because I had a cousin that had got into a lot of trouble, but because of someone else he got a second chance, and has made it way better for himself.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. It is a great easy read for someone. The type of person who would like this book, is a young person that likes mystery.

This reading period I am pretty upset with myself. I have only read about 200 pages. Based on the 350+ pages requirement I have slacked off quite a bit in the reading area of this class. It’s not that I don’t read in this class, but I never get any opportunity to read anywhere else due to all the extra curricular activities I am participating in. I am going to start reading my book as much as I can at home to catch up and finish this great book. I really enjoy this book and all the twists and turns that come with it. I will highly recommend this book just like everybody else I know that has read this book. The main character in the book I have been reading is a man named Nicholas Easter. Or that’s what he is going by in this town. Him and his lady friend, Marlee, also her alias name. They have been to a couple different cities, all registered under different names, to kind of corrupt different tobacco trials. But Fitch, a man hired by the tobacco companies to help protect them, has dug up their past and knows everything they thought was untraceable…

I’ve only read 78 pages this month. The book I been reading is The Brothers Torres. Well I guess I deserve an F for the number of pages I read. For next time I wish I could say I would read at home but I probably wont. But Ill try if I get time.
I’ve only read one book so I guess ill talk about it. My reflections are mostly about what I read about that day. This boy Frankie goes to school with his brother witch is popular and he wants to be just like him and have all the girls like him. He gets into a fight and his brother and his friends start to talk to him more and him and his friend become popular and get the girls they want.
I would recommend this book to someone that likes violent books or stories.
Not to someone who isn’t into violence or anything.
I do not know how many pages I’ve read this month. I know that I did not meet the requirements though. There is a book that I came across that is going to boost me up to read lots more and to be able to meet the requirements for this month.
The title of some books that ive read are FCA, The Essential and a couple of other books that ive a banned. But the book that I came across that is going to keep me reading is called darkness before dawn. It’s a book that turns my ears to only want to hear out what this book is all about. It has all my interest, and it’s a book that in understands real well!
Based on the grading scale. I will tell the truth I think and believe I deserve an F. Reason being is because I didn’t do close to what was asked of us to do. I didn’t read the amount of pages that I needed, and that being left me not to write as many reading logs, as I should have. So I don’t deserve a good grade at all for this month.

October Reading Reflection
This month I have read 330 pages. The titles of the books I read are, Diva A Novel, and The Second Summer of The Sisterhood. I believe I deserve a B because I didn’t read 350 pages or more. For the next reading reflection I will have 350 or more pages read, because I am going to take more time out of my day to read and not just at school and a little at home. When I was reading Diva A Novel I really liked it. Caitlin was the main character and she really wanted to get into this Performing Arts school. When I was little I wanted to go to a school were I could dance and love it. Even now I would love to go to a Performing Arts school. Caitlin wanted to go for singing, and because she just didn’t fit in with her popular friends at school. She got in to the school and had to meet all knew people. I thought it was cool how she had the guts to get up in front of all her classmates and sing. I would be scared to death and probably wouldn’t do it. I would recommend this book to someone who likes the arts, or feels like they just don’t fit in with their friends, or just want a really good book to read.
Chris Y.
This month I read 190 to 200 pages out of the book Friday night-lights so based on what I read I think I should get at least a C cause I made the right number of pages. In the book the football team was like the thing that keeps the town together every Friday night the whole town will come and see them play. Every year the team never loses but one of there best players get hurt and cant play so the team don’t know what to do from there. That’s all I have read so far. I would tell other people who play football to read this book it.
Abbie M.
For the month of November I read 259 pages. The books that I read were Sold and New Moon. Those books were very interesting to me because I liked the cover page. I didn’t make my reading goal of 350pages because there had been a few times that I had left my book in my car, or I had forgot it at home. Next time I will not do that because it has affected my grade.
I think that I deserve a B for my grade because I met most of the requirements. Which is 17 points. I pick Sold to do my reflection. Because it was one of the most influential books ive ever read. It really changed my opinion on some big issues. And yes I would deffenly recommend this book to all of my friends and I think that all of my friends would like this book
October Reading Reflection By Austyn Cordonnier
I have read 170 pages this month. The book that I read was Sold By: Patricia McCormick. I believe that I deserve a straight C because to get a c you have to have read 148 pages and I read 170. My plan for next time is too try to get a b. This next month I will have a lot more free time to read because football is over and I have nothing else to do.
Sold is about a young lady whose family is need of money. So her dad try’s to get her a job as a maid but instead she get taken to the city and sold to a whorehouse. I have not finished the book completely but I have a prediction that she will try to escape and get back to her family who she loved so much. I have a connection to make about this book like when she leaves her home to go to town that is exactly how I feel when I leave to go to football camp every year.
I do recommend this book to people but I will give a warning it is sad and does make you think.
Kari G.
This month, I read a total of 354 pages from two books. I finished Blue Justice, which I started last month, and I began reading the book that I have to finish for an American History paper, Entertaining Satan. Based on the grading chart, I believe that I deserve an A. I barely made my goal this month because I think that I am having a hard time reading Entertaining Satan, a book that does not interest me very much. Over the course of the month of November, I plan on setting aside time daily and forcing myself to read for a certain amount of time.
Entertaining Satan is a rather dry book. I find it very difficult to get through mostly because of the language used and how people talked when this book was written (it was written a long time ago). At the very beginning of starting this book, I noticed in my reading reflections that I thought that the book was slightly interesting, and that I thought that it wouldn’t be very difficult to get through it. Gradually though, my reflections began to portray that I was having a lot harder time understanding things that were going on, and that I was having to go back and reread passages a few times. The characters actually do change throughout the book. In Entertaining Satan, the stories and lives of different people that were convicted of being witches in Early New England are told; most women, some men. It really stood out to me that there were men convicted of witchery; I had always thought that it was primarily women who were convicted. I was also surprised to find out that the torture devices that we’ve all learned about, the deadly contraptions and ways for the courts to discover witches, were only used in the Salem witch trials.
No, I would not recommend this book to anyone. It is very dry and hard to get through. The only people who would actually like this book are history buffs and history teachers.

October Reading Reflection
This month I read over 350 pages. I read Maximum Ride, Parts of Sold, and Just Listen. I read about 150 pages of Maximum Ride so far, About 50 pages total of Sold, and I’ve read about 160 of Just Listen. I think I deserve an A. To meet the reading requirements next month I will keep reading at the pace I have been the past two months.
One of the books I have read this month and really liked was “Just Listen”. I have read about 160 pages of it so far. So far it is about a girl named Anabel. She used to be best friends with a girl named Sophie until something happened with Sophie’s boyfriend Will and Anabel and Sophie has hated Anabel ever since. Sophie saw Anabel and Will and assumed the worst. This happened during the summer. Ever since school started, Sophie has been making life suck for Anabel and she has been making scenes in front of everyone. After one of these scenes, a boy named Owen helped Anabel and took her home. She has gotten to know Owen pretty well now and it’s starting to scare her because she has opened up to him like she has never opened up to anyone before. I would recommend this book to people who like stories that keep you on edge. It is a really interesting book and it keeps you wanting to know more and more.
Ella L.
This month I read 586 pages. I read Waiting For You by Susan Colasanti and For Keeps by Natasha Friend. The grade I believe I deserve is an A. or 20 points. Based on your grading scale I would be getting an A.
One book I read this month was For keeps by Natasha Friend. This author is one of my favorites, she has written Bounce, Lush, and Perfect. All of her books show real life stories in a modern way and they are also written like I think which makes them a ton easier to understand. Any book that Natasha has written I would recommend to my friends.
Some of my connections to the book were when Josie (the main character) was telling us about how her mom (Kate) got pregnant with her when Kate was only 16. Nowadays that happens all the time, it’s not unusual to find girls at your school become pregnant. I also connected to when Kate found out that her parents had hid things from her. My parents, and most likely all parents, hid stuff. Their main goal is not to hurt us but protect us, which Kate later comes to realize.
Like I said above I would suggest this book to other people because it has a story line that keeps your attention and tells a real life story. It’s realistic which I like. I would guess that girls would be the ones to read this because it’s from a girls point of view, but guys might enjoy it.
Amber B.
For this month I have read 685 pages. So I believe that I deserver an ‘’A’’ for how many pages I have read in the past month. This month I have read The Diary of Anne Frank, John Lennon life cut to short by: Chris Turner, and finally Bloodsucking Fiends by: Chris Moore. I hope by next month I have read a lot more books than I have so far.
My focus for my reading reflection is Bloodsucking Fiends By: Chris Moore. In the beginning the book Jody the main female character got change in to a vampire as she was walking home from work. Than she met an her boyfriend Tommy about 3 days later and had a one nightstand with him. Than after that they hooked up and started going out. When she first hooked up with Tommy, she told him that she is a vampire. She expected him to freak out, but to her surprise he thought it was awesome. They’re relationship was real forward when I started to read this book. I really thought it was creative that the story took place in San Francesco instead of somewhere like Alaska, New York City or London. Places where a lot of vampire stories have taken place usually. The thing I hated most about the book is the ending when Jody turned Tommy into a vampire. Then the book is just left like that, so that you can go out and get the next book in the series.
Keelie A.
For the month of October I read 231 pages. The titles of the books I read were Would You, American Creation, Shadows of GUILT, and Outrunning the DARKNESS. I believe that I should get a C, because I didn’t meet the required amount of pages for the month, which was 350 pages. I had only read 231 pages. Being 119 pages short. Sense I didn’t meet the page requirement for this month; my plan for next time is to read 350 pages plus to make up for the pages I didn’t read last month.
One book that I’m going to focus on is Shadows of GUILT. As I read this book it continued to get more interesting, and I couldn’t put it down. While I read this book my thoughts were very emotional. I felt the emotions the families and friends had for the little innocent girl that got shot by accident.
A connection I had with what was going on in the book I read was, all the ruckus going on in Saint Joseph, and the innocent lady who got shot made me connect with the young girl Maya in the book who got shot by a man from Florida, because he was after a young man who he wanted revenge on because he killed his only daughter at the age of 17. While leaving a party intoxicated. He ran through a stop sign, T-boning her car. And rescue crews had to cut her out.
The character Dewayne Pike, who was the young man who killed the young 17-year-old girl, by drunk driving, was the only character in the book that changed the way others thought about him. He lied to his close friends and told them that the man, who shot fire at him and missed and hit Maya, was after him to get revenge on his grandfather who was the town sheriff in Florida, where they lived. As Jaris another character in the book was walking home one night and the guy who shot fire towards Dewayne, and hit Maya faked hurt and tricked Jaris into taking him the a local hospital. When Jaris got into the car the man jammed a gun to Jaris’s side commanding him to keep driving. What was happening was the man thought that Jaris was Dewayne because they look a lot alike. And that’s when Jaris found out about Steffi and the actual story of why the guy from Florida, was after Dewayne. So later that night Jaris did a research on the story the man told him and received the same exact information the man had told him. So then Jaris went to the police station and told them everything. And shortly after that there was a report of a high-speed chase by Tubman High (the school the students went to) and they finally got the armed man. And while the officers were giving him order in which to do, the man did not follow. So an officer fired a shot and killed him.
The theme of the book was very scary. It was in the downtown part of the city where other action usually happens, but not as bad as this. There are usually gang fights, and gang tagging. This crime continued day through night.
I’d recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about crime. And people who like books that leave you wanting to read more.

This month I’ve read probably over 1000 pages. I’ve read multiple books with over 300 pages in them and a few with 100-200 pages. The books I have read this month are Catwalk, four of the Fruits Basket manga series, the first two books of the Vampire Diaries series, Untamed of the House of Night series, and probably more that I don’t remember. According to the rubric, for the amount of pages I’ve read this month, I should get an A+.
The Fruits Basket books, by Natsuki Takaya, are about this family cursed by the Chinese zodiac spirits. In the books there are 13 spirits; pig, rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dog, rooster, monkey, sheep, dragon, horse, snake, and last but not least… the cat. There is no year of the cat. The myth goes that God invited the animals to come to a banquet the next day and the rat, being mischievous, told the cat that the banquet wasn’t until a day after. The rat rode on the back of the ox all the way to the banquet and hopped off to be the first one there. After the mouse, followed all but the cat that was curled up sleeping, dreaming of the banquet he would never attend because the rat tricked him. When I heard this story I automatically had the cat as my favorite zodiac animal. I feel bad for the cat being tricked and being robbed of having a year of its own. I wonder if I would have been born in the year of the cat if there were such a thing? In the books there is a girl named Tohru Honda who is supposed to help the cursed family in some way. Is she going to help break the curse? Will she be the cause for the year of the cat? She certainly has changed at least two of the characters. Yuki and Kyo. Yuki is possessed by the rat’s spirit and Kyo has the cat’s spirit. Thanks to Tohru, they are getting along a little better. Will they become friends at the end of the story? The story’s theme is undefined to me at this point. I’ve only read four of the books so far and each book is only about four of five chapters of the entire story.
I really enjoy these books and I would defiantly recommend this book to anyone who likes anime, manga, comic books, picture books, a little bit of conflicted romance and comical perversion because, well, these books are funny, suspenseful, and, in general, great.
I read 352 pages this month. I read Goal! by Robert Rigby. I believe I deserve an A because I have read the reading requirements for the month.
Santiago Munez is an awesome soccer player. I liked this book a lot because it gives people hope who are under poverty that they really do have a good shot at getting rich playing sports. He was born in Mexico, raised in Los Angeles, California illegally, and then gets picked up from a scout from England to play for Castle United. I would recommend this book for those who play sports and have a slim chance of becoming pro because your poor, because this book surely will raise you hopes up on your dreams, regardless of which sport you play.

This month I read 508 pages. I read two books, The Compound, is one of them. And that turned out to be one of my favorite books I’ve ever read and it was 351 pages. The other book I read, while am still reading, is Kiss Me Tomorrow and I’m on page 157 in that book. Based on the grading chart, I deserve an A because I read over the maximum amount of pages I was suppose to.
The books I’m choosing to do my reflection over is The Compound. It’s about a family whose father/husband is pretty much just a nut. He didn’t want his kids getting bored with life, so he locked them under ground for a planned out 15 years, with a food supply that runs out so there forced to eat something else. With everything they could ever need down there, except one of the twins, and they’re grandma. I honestly thought this book was crazy, I mean, I love it but I could never imagine someone in the real world being as crazy as the father in the book. The actions of the father and what he did simply just pissed me off. I mean, who could lock there wife and three kids under ground for 7 years just so they don’t get bored with life? How could he let them stay under there when they’re running out of food? How could he let his wife have children that the rest of the family will eat just incase they do run out of food? I don’t know how or why someone could or would do that to they’re family. It just doesn’t make any sense to me.
In my book, the twin, I don’t remember his name, but at first, he was shy and a loner, and always put himself down, and always talked about how his twin brother (who got locked outside the compound, in the real world) would have been better down there then him. He always blamed himself for his brother not being down there. He never thought he could do anything right, until he found the way to his mom and two sisters out of the compound and save they’re lives. He also had a sister, Lexi I think was her name who changed a lot in the book. She went from stuck up and snobby to actually caring and helping her brother find they’re way out.
This honestly was an incredible book with so many twists. It had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading it. I would recommend this book to anyone who is into thrillers, and mystery books, because you never know what is going to happen next.
Samantha L.
I can sadly say that I only read 205 pages this month. I read a total of three books. The books I read include: Crazy Love, Crazy Love, and The Drowsy Chaperone. Based on the grade chart I only deserve a C on my reading this month. Next month I will “buckle down” on my reading, to not let myself become distracted and to read more in my spare time.
Crazy Love. I love this book! It was amazing! It used real life situations and problems and talked about how when you rely on God you can handle anything. The book’s main focus however is on loving God like Crazy, making him number one in your life. Many times it seems like the author, Francis Chan, was talking directly to me! He said if you say you are a Christian, but if you don’t act like one how can you expect people to listen to you when you’re ministering to them. He talked about how to solve that problem, keep God close. It sounds simple but that is the part that I struggle with. Its hard to keep your focus on God though, the littlest of things can make you go astray. I would definitely recommend this book to another person! It’s a big eye opener, it’s one those books that makes you go, “Wow, what have I been doing?” A person that would like this book would mostly be Christians, or people who are not familiar with God.

I have read 279 pages this month. I believe I deserve a “B” in relate to the grading scale. At the first of the month I finished Notes From A Midnight Driver, and then at the end of the month I finished the most interesting book I have ever read, First Shot. I didn’t meet the page requirement but I have been reading more so I don’t think it will be too hard for me next month if I get a book I absolutely love.
This month I read First Shot. Its about a kid whose mom gets murdered and they suspect his father of doing the crime. Well the father thought it was the son so when the police arrested him he said he did it to protect his son. Comes to find out that neither did it and the head master of the school did. I can relate to this book in just a few ways. One way is I know what its like to have a parent pass away. My dad passed away when I was in 8th grade. Another connection I can make is David in the book, his mom passed away while he was in 8th grade, same as my dad. I can connect with the main character David because he loves to shoot guns and so do I. During the book I was able to make some connections. I connected that at first it was David’s dad that killed his mom but as I read further my thoughts changed. I thought during the book that David was going to get the girl of his dreams, Misty. He got her, but it was at the very end.

Right now, I am reading Diva A Novel written by Alex Flinn. Last week I was reading Friday Night Lights, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I did the book I’m currently reading. I’m on page 17 and I can relate to Cat so far. She’s a cheerleader, and she wants to be a singer. I’m a basketball player, and I want to be a writer.
I didn’t enjoy Friday Night Lights like I did the book I’m reading, because there was nothing I could relate to. The book was extremely serious, no humor, and I didn’t enjoy reading it. It’s one of those books that I could just read for hours, and only remember a couple of pages I read.
I am not much of a reader, but I do enjoy anything written my Stephanie Meyer. The Twilight series are my favorite, but I think it’s time to try a new book to fall in love with. I’m hoping to read at least to 250 pages, if not, more. I can’t wait to get further into this book.
Tara C.
This month I read 363 pages. I read The Secret Life of Bee’s and Sold. I read 157 pages of Secret Life of Bee’s, but then I abandoned it because I didn’t understand it or like it. I read 206 pages of Sold and I am still reading it. I believe I deserve an A because I read over 350 pages, I dedicated a little time each night to reading just to get my pages read.
Sold is a very emotional book. I felt many different things while reading it. I experienced sadness, guilt, and curiosity throughout some of it. Sadness because when she was sent to India she thought she was going there to become a maid for a rich woman and man and all her earnings would be sent back home to her family to help them out. Guilt because when she gets there and finally realizes what’s going on she doesn’t want to escape because she will be beaten to death. She gets no food or drink unless one of the older girls sneaks it in to her. Curiosity because no one knows what is going to happen to her. I don’t even think she knows what will happen to her. Will she die from a disease because they are not allowed to use condoms? Will she be set free when she “pays off her debt?” While I’m reading all of these questions are running through my mind. In case you were wondering, long story short, a family sells their daughter to the country of India to sell her for prostitution. Through the book she talks about her journey, thoughts, feelings, and the men who came into her bedroom. Throughout my book the character never really changed. She mainly tried to pretend she was in another world. A school girl on a vacation, trying to make the best of her situation. In today’s world I don’t think there are a lot of connections I could make from the book. I’m not aware that parents sell their children to others countries to make money for themselves. We do, however, see things like this on shows such as Law and Order, or CSI.

I have read 367 pages in this month. The books I’ve read were “Just Listen” and “SOLD”. So I believe that I deserve an A. Although I did drop pages since my last reflection I met the requirement
While I was reading “Just Listen” I felt a lot of things. For example I hated the fact that she let herself be pushed around. It made me horrifyingly angry. At the same time though I understood why she let herself be pushed around. The main character was strong at times but also very fragile. I connected to her in a lot of different views, like I knew how she felt and how it’d feel to be betrayed, but I also knew how it’d feel if you were in the other person’s shoes. So the book was phenomenal in a lot of aspects, because it can cause you the emotional satisfaction that’s needed in every book.
So all in all I would recommend this book because it has everything that a good book should have. Especially if you have a thing for mushy books, or books with a lot of emotional stress, it will though cause you emotional satisfaction.

This month I only read 100 pages so I should only get a D but still that’s passing. I read 95 pages of Black Tooth Grin and 5 pages of Zombie Warfare. Next month I will have all my pages because I will read more.
The book that I’m going to talk about is Black Tooth Grin. This book is about the life of Dimebag Darrell the guitarist for pantera who was shoot and killed on stage wial playing a show for his side band. I really connect with this book because dimebag is a very big influence on me when it comes to playing guitar. He is my guitar idol. So reading this book and reading how he lived has a very big effect on me when I play guitar.
Hannah G.
This month I read 419 pages. I read loves me, loves me not and sweet and vicious. The books are sequence to each other. Based on the grading chart I deserve the A because I read all my pages and plus more and this is the first time this month that I have hit the goal on the reading pages. Even though I meet my reading requirements for this month my plan for next month I’m going to stay on track and make sure that I get books that I will enjoy.
The book I’m going to pick is sweet and vicious. I picked sweet and vicious because my characters have changed a lot since that last book. Marnie is going through a rough patch with her ex-boyfriend being back in town and spilling all the dirty secrets about their past to all the freshman classmates and she is freshman class treasurer and she has a lot to worry about if she goes from cool to drool. Nola on the other hand is falling for two different guys and she doesn’t want to fall for one of them. Matt is her new “best friend” that she wants to be more then friends with but he has a girlfriend and she doesn’t want to make things awkward for them. Then there is Ian and he is her twin brothers manny. The girls use to be best friends till the got in a huge fight and now they both are telling their selves that they might want to be friends again. My connections that I can make with the girls is that I have fallen for a best guy friend before and my ex-best friend and I use to be really close since this past summer, when things all went down the drain. I don’t really have second thoughts about being friends again but I cant say that I wont ever have second thoughts. I really love these books and I really enjoy reading about teens that go through the same stuff we do and not some fantasy stuff that we read when we were really.

This month I’ve hardly read, except bits and pieces here and there of all sorts of literature. I can’t name all of the pieces I’ve read. I deserve an F obviously, but I’ve had a lot on my plate, including soiled diapers, I’m still coping with the circumstances, by the end of this month I should be on track. I’ll spend all the free time I have every day reading because I don’t have any responsibilities, I can devote my life to this class just to get an A!:)
How can I pick a book, when I haven’t read a book this month?!
I would recommend books, in general, to all people. Wisdom is the most elaborate weapon. So remember kids… Brains over bronze, and the Pen conquers the sword.
Keisha.e
I only read about 200 pages this month. The title of my books were, “The first part last” “Tears of a tiger”, and “A raisin in the sun”, I expect to earn a C. I’m going to keep track of my books this month so I can stay interested when I have to read and not just picking up a random book.
I haven’t finished an entire book but so far I connect to the first part last” the most. The main character has a lot of sudden responsibility. I understand why he is cautious to the world around him. Trusting and depending on others is difficult. This book made me feel lucky and appreciative. I do like this book and will continue reading it… when I find it.

This month I read 787 pages between three books. In the beginning of the month I finished Payback, Then I read The Gates of Rome and its sequel The Death of Kings. I believe I deserve an A because I read double the amount of required pages.
The Gates of Rome is a historical fiction book about the life of Julius Gaius Caesar and Marcus Brutus. As young boys it tells about their experiences and their military training from one of the best gladiators alive. Sometime during the book I looked in the back at the author’s notes and he talked about how some of this book didn’t happen. That sparked my interest to go online and find out exactly what did happen. As it turns out, it made me think differently of Marcus after I found out he murdered Caesar. There are four books in the series and I plan to read all of them. I am currently reading the second book.

October I read 167 pages. The book I started to read is PERFECT but Natasha Friend.
At the end of last year I went to the library and re quested a book by Natasha Friend because I once before read a book called LUSH by her and loved her as an author. She puts everything in terms that I can comprehend and makes me want to keep reading.
Perfect is about a girl who forces herself to vomit after every meal. She is not happy with herself and her little sister always catches her and snitches. She calls her sister ape face because she has big lips, ears and acne all over and she is only 12. Isabell has a sick problem and gets sent away to get help for it.
For the month of October I did not meet the standard requirements for the A which is 350 pages. My plan for the month of November is to get a book that I really enjoy reading and cant put the book down. I believe if I find a book that makes me want to stay up late and not want to go out instead of read I can read beyond 350 pages.
I didn’t make very many reading reflections on Perfect because I read most of the book at home and didn’t think I had to make a log about it. I remember my thoughts and feelings . I was more shocked than anything because I never understood and still don’t understand why someone so young could be so miserable and hate her body so much that she would want to hurt themselves . It was more of a mixed emotion feelings and if I could recommend this book to any one I’d most defiantly recommend it to everyone.

During the month I finished reading Cheech And Chong written by Tommy Chong and then I’m reading the book The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe so I read about 150 pages. I believe I deserve at least a C I don’t know why, I just think a C would be reasonable grade.
The reason I chose to read The Electric Kool-Aid Test was because it seemed like a good book and once I started to read it, it was a good book so what did I do I continued to read it. But the book is placed in the 70’s and it’s about a dude named Ken Kesey and he is trying to graduate from acid during the psychedelic movement, and it’s what happened during the time he tried to graduate. But I would recommend this book to anyone because it is a really good book.

October I read 365 pages. I finished the book Glass by Ellen Hopkins. I think that I should get an A because I read more then 350 pages, and 350+ is an A.
Kristina and Trey finally move into an apartment together like they wanted, still addicted to the crack. Kristina gets her son back like he always wanted, but after a few days, she sent him back to her mother because she realized she could not take care of him. Trey claimed he was out looking for a job all day, everyday, but come to find out, he was taking their money to casinos and gambling it away hoping he could make more for the two of them. Running out of money quickly, they came up with a plan to “barrow” money. They went and got a fake I.D made for Kristina from one of Trey’s friends, but had her mothers name put on it instead. Then Kristina called her mother and tricked her into telling her a time when he house would be empty. The day the day came, Trey and Kristina broke into her parents house and stole check books, and a few pieces of jewelry, trying to make it look like only jewelry was stolen. They pawned the rings, then wrote fake checks to get cash. Once they got the cash, they used it to get more crack, so they could sell it and make a few more bucks.
About a week later, Kristina got a newspaper to look for a job for herself, instead she saw a picture of her in a bank with “Have you seen this woman” printed in big letters under it. The same day a man came to their door giving her a folder and said she’s been served, inside the envelope, was a paper saying her parents were wanting to take custody of her son, Hunter. More worried about her picture and being wanted, her and Trey packed their bags, all of the drugs and headed to California to move in with one of Trey’s friends and sell all the crack. On the way their, they get caught by a cop and put in jail. The story ends with her in jail being sick cause her body is cleaning out the glass.
I thought that the main characters choices were really stupid, and if she actually tried to quit like she wanted, she would have her son back. And she would be healthy, but she kept thinking she had to do it and it made her feel better.
During the month of October I read the books “Julie and Julia”, “How to Build a House”, ”Clay”, and “The Dying Breath”. All of those books added up to be 1,o11 pages that I read this month.
For this month I think that I deserve an A for all of the pages that I read, because not only did I meet the goal of the class, but I also met my own personal goal by reading more than 1000 pages for the month.
During this month I read a book called “The Dying Breath” by Alane Ferguson, this book had 230 pages, and in those 230 pages I couldn’t help but to fall more in love with it by every word that I read and every chapter that I finished. I loved the tone of the book and all of the detail that the author gave. The way that Alane could go from telling a story from the past and relating it to the present event and not make it sound sloppy or choppy gave it a great flow.
I loved how it really incorporated the mystery aspect of the book, unlike other “mystery” books that don’t make you want to keep reading because they give you all of the problem and all of the answers and do not make you think about what may happen. Alane Ferguson really knows how to make the reader think about all of the details that in the end of the book you realize that they were right in front of your face and it shows you to be more observant to the little things rather than focusing on the big ones. Alane also knew how to make the characters come to life and make them seem to be right in front of you, you get to almost paint your own picture of what happens.

I have read 489 pages total from two books that I have read. I read and finished one book called “Flags of our Fathers” and the second book that I haven’t finished yet is “Hideaway”. I believe I deserve an A because I read more the required amount of pages.
“Flags of our Fathers” is the book I want to focus on. The book is written by the son of a veteran who fought in World War 2 in the battle of Iwo Jima. The veteran named John Bradley was one of the men who raised the flag on top of Mount Suribachi. James Bradley tells his father’s story from the beginning to end and he also tells the story of the other men who raised the flag that day and the effect it had on a nation at war. A made a connection in one of my reading logs that my great-grandfather was a World War 2 veteran. It was important to him just as it is for other veterans who fought in the war. I also thought what it would be like to be in the same situation the Marines were in during the battle on Iwo Jima because from the book I learned how intense the fighting was because previously I thought D-Day was the most intense battle of World War 2 but now I know that both D-Day and Iwo Jima were very similar. I would recommend this book to any person who likes history or is interested in World War 2, but anyone could read this book because it will make realize why those who lived through that war were considered the “greatest generation”.

For the month of October I read approximately 400 pages. I read Dreamland by Sarah Dessen and at home I read the first Pretty Little Liars book. I would have to say approximately 400 pages deserves an "A" considering that is over the required amount.
I would have to say that Dreamland was probably my favorite out of the two books. It is about a girl named Caitlin whose sister, Cassandra, ran away with her new boyfriend and wasn't heard from for weeks. Before her family heard from Cass, Caitlin met a boy named Robterson who soon became her boyfriend. Caitlin was with Robertson for quite some time, before he started to smack her around. The sad thing is, is that she hid it from her family and stayed with him. Until one night her family witnessed it themselves and sent Caitlin to Rehab. While she was in Rehab her mom was mainly the only one to come and visit her, and when she got out and they had a "welcome home" party for her, Cass ended up being there. Turns out, Caitlin was only seeing Cass there because she was in her imaginary Dreamland. This book was definitely worth reading and I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for an interesting book that is very simple to comprehend.

Well this is a little late because I was gone the day this assignment was handed out to us. This month I have read 375 pages. I read "Cover Up" 200 pages which I did not finish because ot was never good so I thought it would get better and it never did so I just gave it up. The book I finished and really liked would be "The Hot Corner". This book was about baseball and I really love baseball and it just kept me interested because it didnt just sit there and talk about a game the whole time, it was just a really good book. The only thing that took me off suprise was that the characters kept popping up gay and comeing out of the closet and it was just suprising. I believe I should get and A because i really, really, really improved from last month with my pages.

I read about 500 pages this month. I read The Christopher Killer, Crazy Love and Maximum Ride(the last one) I really think I deserve an A for this. I passed the required pages but I did not pass my personal goal of 700. With Practice and all it will be hard to get that but I can do it.
I connected with Maximum Ride the most because its a story about how five kids and dog are taken at birth and give wings, the "doctors" put many mutations in there DNA and the kids break free of the school place they where being held and then the live on there own for about two years, never knowing who there real parents are.
Until the meet there mother, they new who there father was but not there mother. They meet up with them and there parents tried to keep them safe. This is the first book where people protected them instead of trying to kill them... Its a great book and I cant wait to read the next one.

I read 620 pages this month.I read Once a Witch, The Truth About Forever, and Ghost Town. I believe i deserve an A because i did meet the requirments and i went over. I think i did pretty good this month.
I'm going to reflect on the book The Truth About Forever. This book mabe me laugh, cry, it made me angry but it's an all around good book. The title makes me think of a poem i wrote (text to self) It was called "Is there a forever" it was one of those sit down and pour your heart out moments. Macy the main character learns to stand up to her mother and boyfriend/ex boyfriend; you never know in these books. She proves to herself that she can do anything she puts her mind to no matter the situation. I would recomend this book to teen girls and even young women who need a good pick me up. A good laugh or cry.

This month I have read 477 pages. The book I read was Handle With Care, by Jodi Picoult. Based on the grading chart I believe I deserve an A. While reading my book, I have felt many different emotions. Jealousy between siblings, pressure to be perfect, questions never answered among a family, and dreams that will rarely come true due to disabilities. This book has made me realize how special life should be to me and I feel like I take life for granted sometimes. Strength is a word that comes to mind constantly while reading this book. There are constant struggles throughout the book but you can see that they all have strength and enough will to get them through the day. I would definitely recommend this book, no matter where you are in the book, it keeps you wondering what’s going to happen next.

This month i read 410 pages this month. i read scott pilgrem vs the world vol. 1 and 2. and im still working on the two towers. i dicited to read the scott pilgrem books on the side becouse i watched the movie. its about a kid who meets a girl and in order for them to date he has to defeat her seven evil ex's. i have had no probablem reading these what so ever. but the lord of the rings on the other hand has taken me a very long time do to the complexity of the books. j.r.r. Tolkin uses long words in every sentence and speeks in an earlyer form of english. the lord of the ring trilogy is by far the most advanced books i have attempted to read so far and wont give up tell i finish them.

The total pages I read for the month of November are 358 pages. The grade i believe i deserve is and A.The title of the books I read were Dark Calling by Darren Shan, The Musician’s Daughter by Susan Dunlap, and The Great Deluge by Douglas Brinkley. The books that I have abandon this month was Dark Calling by Darren Shan. The reason why I abandon dark calling because it just didn’t feel right to read a book about how people to terrible things to other people. The other thing that prevented me from reading the book that I couldn’t find the beginning of the series. The second book I abandon this month was The Great Deluge. The reason why I dropped this book was because it was just telling straight hard facts about the three worst hurricanes in United States history.
The main idea for the book of the musician’s daughter was no matter what you may go through it always to find the truth of what happen before you miss accuse someone of doing something horrible. The reason I choose this for the main theme is because the daughter of the musician’s a goes through getting thrown in a basement of the opera house and she had to escape to save her life. That is just one of the many problems she had to face so she could find out who killed her father. Some of the emotions that I felt when I was reading were anger, sadness, helpless, and happy. One of the many connections that I made with the book was at the end of the book her father’s violin was dropped and scattered in to a hundred pieces. This reminded me of when I dropped my brand new trumpet on the football before the half time show. The emotion that I felt at the moment was that my parents are going to murder me and I was sad because it was my first trumpet that I actually owned.
The characters changed from being hard core to loving. This had happen to the main character because of the security guards that had brought her fathers remains began to help her find who killed her father. So this was start of them falling in love as time went on. But it was a disgrace for a wealthy person to fall in love with a peasant in that time period.
I would recommend this book to another person because it keeps you on toes due to has some romantic parts then goes to action pack exploration right after the romantic part. The other person that reads this book would like how it draws you in as the book goes on. Also you never know what would happen when you would turn the page or read on. Then the other thing is that all sudden it just drops the bomb on you at the end of the book by telling how her father was killed.

This month I believe I deserve an A because I read about 360 pages, I read the book Forever by: Judy Blume (200 pgs) and Canyons by: Gary Paulsen (156-160 pgs). My favorite book of the two is definitely Forever, because it is about a high school girl who meets a boy at a party and falls in love. Her name is Katherine and she met Michael at her bestfriend’s cousin’s New Years party. She instantly falls for him and they convince themselves they cannot be without each other for the rest of their lives. I can make a connection here to pretty much ALL high school students, they start dating someone and instantly are in “love” without even knowing the meaning of the word. Over the Summer Katherine’s parents make her get a job at a kids summer camp because they feel she is getting too attached and needs some space from Michael. In the beginning of the summer she hates it and is miserable but soon she finds herself having feelings for a fellow camp councilor. As the summer goes on Katherine comes to find out the difference between “true love” and “first love”.
I think this is a really good book because it has a dramatic and cute romantic story line that along the way unfolds into the meaning that Katherine discovers. I recommend Forever to any other high school students because maybe if they read it they might actually wake up from the little fairy tale “love” they think they are in and realize that not everything is as perfect as it seems.

November reading reflection
In the month of November I read 403 pages. My books this month were, The short second life of Bree Tanor and half of a book called obsession. I did not abandon any books but I thought about it. Based on the grading scale I should receive an A+ because I read the correct amount of pages.
My main book this month was The Short Second Life of Bree Tanor by Stephanie Meyer. This book was a spin off of the Twilight books. Bree was one of the vamps that the Cullens tried to save. In the end Bree had a very short second life. The only good thing about her second life was that she found love. I would suggest this book to others, but only if they liked the twilight series and have read the other books otherwise they would be very confused.
this month i read 299 pages. i've only read my bloody life by Raymundo sanchez. Based on the scale i believe i deserve a B or C at least. At home and in camp i've read nearly 300 pages within 2 months time. I think i met the reading requirements.
i really only have one reaction to this book and its shocking. There are so many things that happened in this book, even when ray was younger he had a lot of things happen to him. At age 5 or 6 he was raped by his cousin Alberto in Puerto Rico. Alberto told him if he told anyone he would kill him so Ray had to keep his mouth shut. He moved to Chicago and his mother had many boyfriends and one of them became abusive to Ray as did his mom. The Ray got involved with gangs and drugs. my thoughts were why would his mom let him be involved with that? why would she leave her son in chicago to live with a drug addict? But most importantly why would she let Pedro his Step dad put his hands on her son? There was a huge change in Rays character. He went from someone who never got into trouble with good grades to a gangster, involved with shootings, drugs, and violence. i would definitely recommend this book to anyone, but mostly the type of person interested in gangs or violence.

This month I’ve read about 733 pages. The two books I read were The Last Song and Lovely Bones that I haven’t quite finished yet. I didn’t abandon any books this month. I believe I deserve an A based on the grading chart.
The Last Song is a romantic novel about a rebellious teen and her younger brother getting shipped off to their father’s house. Who they haven’t seen in three years because their parents got divorced. Planning on never giving her father a chance to make up for lost time, she gets in with the wrong crowd at first then meets Will. And Will made her change and realize that people make mistake but everyone deserves another chance. In the end, Ronnie, the main character, forgives her father and then finds out some heartbreaking news.
My reactions to this book were sad and happy. There were a lot of both in the book. An example of each is when Ronnie sleeps outside to protect the baby turtles from raccoons. And when Ronnie finds out that her father is sick and dying. A connection I made with the book was that I’ve lost a loved to a sickness. Ronnie changed in the book, in the beginning she was rebellious and didn’t want anything to do with her father, but in the end she forgave him. And realized that he never stopped loving her.
My plans over Christmas break for reading, I don’t quite know yet. I will probably get books for Christmas. But I haven’t thought of any books that I know that I’m going to read.
I don’t think I will have nay problem meeting the requirements nest semester. I always go over the minimum anyways.
